The USPA is continuing to grow nationwide! From novice to experienced lifters, I feel that the USPA has a lot to offer with our local meets, National, World and Expo invitationals.
I want you to be proud to lift in the USPA. Although I may not implement each idea initially, I do appreciate your emails and phone calls and want to thank each of you for reaching out to me!
As always, a big THANK YOU to our dedicated referees', supportive EC members, fantastic meet directors and the hard-working spotters and loaders!
And, thank you to to all of you for your continued support! The success of the USPA, and the success of Powerlifting, is because of you!

Southwest Desert Classic
Meet Write-up!

On Saturday, May 25th Die Hard Gym in Peoria, Arizona was the site of the 3rd annual USPA Southwest Desert Classic Powerlifting meet. It was the second of three meets held in the quickly expanding USPA in Phoenix!
This was a very exciting meet, with many new lifters competing for the first time. State and American records fell continuously during the course of the meet.
In full power, Nathen Davis, a first time lifter was a nice surprise. He totalled 617.5 Kilos and snagged the best lifter award.
In Womens' bench, Angie Robertson pushed 209 pounds to set a State record and win the best bench award. There were many great moments in the meet, but the highlight was 19 year old newcomer Kara Maier. Remember her name because you will be hearing it for years to come! It was only her second meet and she totaled 838 pounds, broke six American records, twelve State records, and won best lifter awards for full power, junior bench, and junior deadlift. The USPA should take notice. This kid is good!
There are many to thank for making this a great meet. Malinda Gustafson and Stephanie Sparkes ran the score table and handled the bar loading program. Asa Barnes did a great job of announcing. Myran Sawyer is the best ever at loading a platform, and the loaders, who were too many to name, were awesome. The referees were Tim Sparkes, national, Jose Henandez, national, Bob Schleder, state, and Joe Reyes, state.
Special thanks to the Powerhouse Worship Center for a great venue. See you August 17th for our next meet!

We held our first ever USPA Event in Eaton, Ohio on May 4th. We had a total of 34 lifters competing from New York, Tennessee, Michigan, Indiana, and all over Ohio. This was a Single-ply, Raw and Classic Raw meet.
The meet was a huge success, and best lifter awards went to Matt Wenning for the Open Raw class, Luigi Fagiano for Junior Raw Class, Jeff Johnston for Single-ply Bench, and Mike Wolfe for Raw Bench.
A big thanks to Parrillo Performance and Ken Anderson Powerlifting for door prize giveaways. Also, a huge thank you to Centerville Pizza and Barbecue for sponsoring the meet and providing the smoked pulled pork for the food/refreshments.
