On May 24-26, 2018, the USRCC participated at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum - 2018.  The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is an annual business event for the economic sector, which has been held in St. Petersburg since 1997, and under the auspices of the Russian President since 2005.

The SPIEF 2018 was  was held under the slogan "Building a Trust Economy" and was attended by more than 17, 000 business executives and government officials  from all over the world.





The USRCC participants attended several business roundtables and held several meetings with Russian government officials and some of the most influential leaders in U.S.-Russia and international trade and investment. 

We are looking forward to another successful Trade Mission to St. Petersburg Economic Forum in 2019!

SPIEF 18 - Russia rebound sees Gefco acquire 750 railcars

Logistics provider, Gefco says a strongly recovering Russian automotive market has led it to acquire 750 railcars to transport growing demand for vehicles in the country.
Russia endured 48 consecutive months of dramatically falling automotive sales as a combination of a plunging oil price, high inflation, credit access difficulties and a succession of international economic sanctions from a West disapproving of its annexation of Crimea, saw consumers shy away from big ticket purchases.  Read more...
'To produce oil one needs pipes': Russian pipemaker TMK looks to oil's rise for growth

Cnbc.com, May 24, 2018: Oil prices are rising and higher U.S. production can only be beneficial to us, the head of strategy at Russian pipemaker TMK told CNBC Thursday.
"The sector we're in is very dynamic now with the oil price at $70-plus for WTI (West Texas Intermediate), we're seeing very strong drilling activity and the U.S. does not produce all the products it needs so that (means) a lot of imports," Vladimir Shmatovich said at St. Petersburg  International Economic Forum (SPIEF)Read more...
Russia's Gazprom signs protocol with Turkey on TurkStream gas pipelin

Economics.unian.info, May 27, 2018: The earlier delay might have been related to talks between Gazprom and Turkey's Botas about a possible discount for Russian gas.
Russian state gas giant Gazprom said on May 26 it had signed a protocol with the Turkish government on a planned gas pipeline and agreed with Turkish firm Botas to end an arbitration dispute over the terms of gas supplies. The protocol concerned the land-based part of the transit leg of the TurkStream gas pipeline, which Gazprom said meant that work to implement it could now begin, Hurriyet reports.  Read more...
Russia's Rosneft discovers new oil field in Iraq

Tass.com, May 23, 2018: Bashneft International, a subsidiary of Russian state-owned oil company Rosneft discovered a new oil field in Iraq as a result of drilling of the first exploratory well at Block 12, Rosneft said in a press release.
The new field was named Salman.
"The exploratory well was successfully drilled to a depth of 4,277 m. Tests resulted in an inflow of oil, which gives grounds to expect the discovery of industrial reserves," the report said.
The company noted that they view this discovery as an important milestone in the development of exploration and production projects abroad.  Read more...

550 Deals Worth About $38Bln Signed at SPIEF-2018 - Russian Presidential Adviser

Sputniknews.com, May 26, 2018: ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) - A total of 550 agreements worth more than 2.36 trillion rubles ($38 billion) have been signed at the 2018 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Anton Kobyakov, the Russian presidential adviser said Saturday.
"As of 1 p.m. [10:00 GMT], 550 agreements worth 2.365 trillion rubles have been signed," Anton Kobyakov, who is also the executive secretary of the SPIEF organizing committee, told reporters.
The host city of the forum also took advantage of the possibilities opened up by the event, The authorities of St. Petersburg, Russia's second largest city, signed 70 agreements at the forum with a total value of over 267 billion rubles, the city's Governor Georgy Poltavchenko said.  Read more...
Saudi Energy Minister Says Had Meetings With Heads of Rosatom, LUKoil at SPIEF

Sputniknews.com, May 26, 2018: Saudi Energy Minister Khalid Falih said Saturday he had held meetings with LUKoil head Vagit Alekperov and Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
"I held meetings with CEOs of Rosatom, Royal Dutch Shell, Lukoil, Schlumberger and the Senior Vice President of @IBM, during the meetings we discussed the current cooperation & opportunities for collaboration on several technology projects within #SaudiVision2030," the minister wrote on his Twitter.  Read more...
Russia's Rosneft: Oil product export curbs may help domestic market: Interfax

Reuter.com, May 31, 2018: Russia's largest oil producer Rosneft said on Thursday that restrictions on oil product exports should be one of the measures the government should look at to help stabilise the domestic fuel market, Interfax news agency reported.
Retail gasoline and diesel prices have skyrocketed on the domestic market in Russia following a recent strong global oil rally as well as an increase in fuel taxes. Gasoline prices broke through the psychologically important level of 40 rubles ($0.6429) per litre this month.  Read more...
Russian exports boost Turkey's fruit, vegetable trade

Aa.com, May 31, 2018: Resolving problems with Russia played a major role in boosting Turkey's fruit and vegetable exports in the first four  month  of this year.
The exports rose 25 percent this Jan.-April, compared to the same period last year, reaching $794 million from $635 million, according to the Uludag Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters' Association (UYMSIB).
Other factors which contributed to the increase were confidence and appreciation of Turkish products in European markets and access to new markets.
A total of 1,557 million tons of fruits and vegetables were exported during the period, a 17-percent increase in volume, the association said.   Read more...
Israeli clinic Hadassah to open in Skolkovo Innovation Center

Russianconstruction.com, May 30, 2018: A branch of Israeli clinic Hadassah is going to be opened on the premises of a medical cluster in Skolkovo Innovation Center, Moscow.
According to Deputy Mayor of Moscow Marat Khusnullin, the opening of the facility will take place no later than the end of the summer this year. "The medical cluster in Skolkovo is a grandiose project that provides for the construction of about 300,000 square meters. Recently, the construction of the first phase, a diagnostic complex with an area of 12,000 square meters, was completed", Khusnullin noted.
He has added that currently, negotiations with several medical centers are underway on the issue of the opening of their branches in Skolkovo.  Read more...
Philippines plans to import diesel from Russia, non-OPEC countries

Reuters.com, May 31, 2018: The Philippines' energy ministry plans to import initially about 240 million liters of diesel, equivalent to three days of the country's requirements, from Russia and other non-OPEC countries for stockpiling purposes, it said on Thursday.
The southeast Asian country is looking to establish what it calls a "strategic petroleum reserve" that it can tap if and when fuel supply tightens in the world market.
The reserve will complement the minimum inventory requirement that oil companies such as Petron Corp, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp and other local retailers must comply with, the Department of Energy (DoE) said.  Read more...
Plan to import gold from Russia on bond basis to help jewelry sector: Suresh Prabhu 

Economictimes.indiatimes.com, May 31, 2018: The government is mulling a proposal to import gold from Russia to help gems and jewelry exporters provided they agree to ship out the entire consignment after value addition, Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu has said.
Under the 'bonded basis' imports, the duty free consignment will not be allowed for domestic use and the entire gold will have to be exported after value addition.
Vehicle imports to Russia increase in the first quarter

Automotivelogistics.media, May 29, 2018: Russia imported almost 67,000 finished vehicles during the first quarter 2018, up by just under 50% compared to the same period last year, according to a statement from the country's Federal Customs Service. Imports over the period were equal to $1.65 billion.
It is the first time in a decade that the share of imported finished vehicles on Russia's domestic market has shown growth. Russian analyst agency Autostat reported the share of imports had been steadily falling from its peak of 55.7% achieved in 2008. It dropped to 18.8% in 2017 but recovered to 19.7% in the first quarter 2018.  Read more...
Cuba greenlights agricultural imports from Russia

Rt.com, May 30, 2018: Ten Russian companies have received permission to supply their produce to Cuba, Russia's food safety regulator Rosselkhoznadzor said on Wednesday.
Specialists from the Caribbean nation visited Russia twice last year, inspecting companies in eight Russian regions. "As a result of the inspections, the Cuban side has granted the right of access to its market of Russian produce from 10 enterprises," said the regulator. It detailed that deliveries will include poultry, beef and dairy products.
According to Rosselkhoznadzor, experts from Cuba's Ministry of Agriculture are expected to carry out one more inspection soon for Russian companies interested in supplying meat.   Read more...

It is one of the most famous world forums on digital transformation and start-ups. The event was personally made open open by the President of France Emmanuel Macron. FARMERS IN ALMATY REGION WILL START EXPORTING BEEF TO CHINA AND IRAN THIS YEAR

Kazakh-tv.kz, May 28, 2018: Farmers in Almaty region will start exporting beef to China and Iran this year. Five years ago, one of the leading farms of Alakol district purchased 5,000 cows of the Aberdeen Angus and Hereford breeds of beef cattle in Australia. The livestock population has currently increased to 15,000. The farmers preferred these breeds due to their breeding qualities. These cattle are characterized by high early maturity and excellent quality of meat. In addition, the animals adapt easily to the climate and tolerate high and low temperatures. The farmers practice the pasture breeding method. The pasture area is 50,000 hectares and it is surrounded by electric fence.  Read more...

Вопросы агропромышленного экспорта обсудят на Российско-Китайском ЭКСПО в Екатеринбурге

Tass.ru, 31 мая, 2018: Китайские инвесторы обсудят с российской стороной вопрос об участии в агропромышленных проектах регионов Уральского федерального округа (УрФО) на Российско-Китайском ЭКСПО в Екатеринбурге. Об этом сообщил ТАСС вице-президент Уральской торгово-промышленной палаты (Уральская ТПП) Александр Макаров.
"Китайские инвесторы крайне заинтересованы в получении агропромышленной и высокотехнологичной продукции из Российской Федерации. Что касается первого, речь идет о новых для нас, уральцев, сегментах. Белорусский экспорт в Россию вырос

Eadaily.com, 28 мая, 2018: В первом квартале 2018 года Белоруссия увеличила экспорт товаров в Россию по сравнению с аналогичным периодом 2017 года. Рост составил 10,2% до $ 3 млрд 101,6 млн, сообщает «Интерфакс» со ссылкой на материалы Национального статистического комитета. «Стоимостные объемы экспорта в Российскую Федерацию увеличились по всем группам товаров», - отмечается в данных Белстата.
Согласно статистике, наиболее существенное увеличение стоимостного объема поставок в Россию отмечено по грузовым автомобилям, говядине, пахте, йогурту, кефиру, плитам древесно-стружечным, телевизорам, мониторам и проекторам. Наиболее существенное снижение зафиксировано по сливочному маслу, молоку и сливкам сгущенным и сухим, сырам и творогу, пруткам горячекатаным из нелегированной стали, сахару.
Новый маршрут на юг даст России колоссальные выгоды

Vz.ru, 31 мая, 2018: Новый транспортный коридор «Север - Юг», который составит конкуренцию маршруту через Суэцкий канал, приобретает все более четкие очертания. Его усиленно лоббирует Индия, где должна быть конечная точка маршрута. Но особенно большие выгоды реализация такого проекта принесет и самой России, как транзитной стране.
