Gazprom and Shell Expanding Cooperation

Gazprom.com, March 16, 2020: Today, Gazprom and Shell signed an Agreement of Strategic Cooperation for a five-year period. The signing ceremony was held via a video link in the presence of Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Ben van Beurden, Chief Executive Officer of Royal Dutch Shell. The newly signed document expands the interaction between the two companies. Particular attention will be given to such areas as research of energy markets, implementation of projects along the entire value chain, cooperation in digitalization of technologies, and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Lukoil Increases Production at Imilorskoye Field in West Siberia

Lukoil.com, March 17, 2021: LUKOIL's cumulative oil output at the Imilorskoye field in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District has exceeded five million tonnes since the start of its pilot commercial operation in 2014. In 2020, the field's production increased by over 20%, when compared to the 2019 results. Read more...

Tax Day for Individuals Extended to May 17: Treasury, IRS Extend Filing and Payment Deadline

The Texas extended deadline remains the same - Victims of winter storms that began February 11, 2021 now have until June 15, 2021, to file various individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.

Themoscowtimes.com, March 18, 2021: Russia plans to cut state funding for the green energy sector by nearly a quarter, or 22%, the Kommersant business daily reported Thursday. The government’s budget for its 2025-2035 renewables program will be cut from 400 billion rubles ($5.4 billion) to 313 billion rubles ($4.3 billion), unnamed sources told Kommersant, citing a March 11 meeting between Deputy Prime Ministers Alexander Novak and Yury Borisov. Russian Industrial Production Fell Heavily by 3.7% y/y in February on Leap Year Effect

Intellinews.com, March 17, 2021: Russia’s industrial production fell heavily by 3.7% year on year in February on account of the leap year affect, down from a 1.9% contraction the month before, Rosstat reported on March 16. “This is significantly worse than in January (-1.9%). However, the headline number should not disappoint, as y/y comparisons are affected by the leap year: in February 2020, there was one extra day,” BCS Global Markets said in a note. Read more...
US Authorities to Broaden Export Restrictions Against Russia

Tass.com, March 17, 021: The US administration will extend export restrictions against Russia, the US Department of Commerce says on Wednesday. A ‘presumption of denial’ will be effective since March 18 for export and reexport of items controlled for security reasons, according to the statement. At the same time, certain exceptions will be provided, in particular, for export of products related to civil aviation and government space cooperation. Read more...
Russia Lifts Interest Rates amid Rising Inflation, Geopolitical Risks

Reuters.com, March 19, 2021: Russia’s central bank raised its key interest rate to 4.5% on Friday, embarking on a monetary tightening cycle triggered by a weaker rouble that pushed inflation higher and geopolitical risks that stirred market turmoil. Russia raised its key rate by 25 basis points, the first change since it cut the rate in July 2020 to a record low of 4.25% as the economy was rocked by the plunge in crude prices, the country’s main export.
