St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF)
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) is a unique event in the world of business and economics. SPIEF has been held since 1997, and since 2006, it has been held under the auspices of the President of the Russian Federation, who has also attended each event.
Over the last 24 years, the Forum has become a leading global platform for members of the business community to meet and discuss the key economic issues facing Russia, emerging markets, and the world as a whole.
The 25th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is set to take place on 15–18 June 2022. As in previous years, the business program will focus on the global and Russian economies, social issues, and technological development.
The Forum will be held in strict accordance with health and safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, carefully drawn up by the Organizing Committee in line with the WHO recommendations. SPIEF 2022 will provide a full range of services to enable participants to effectively nurture and expand their business network and enjoy safe, productive participation, including in an enriching cultural and sporting program.

Shell Starts Up Hydrogen Electrolyser in China with 20 MW Production Capacity

Shell.com, January 28, 2022: Shell has started operations at the power-to-hydrogen electrolyser in Zhangjiakou, a joint venture between Shell (China) Limited and Zhangjiakou City Transport Construction Investment Holding Group Co. Ltd. One of the world’s largest hydrogen electrolysers¹ has today started production of green hydrogen in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province, China. The electrolyser will provide about half of the total green hydrogen supply for fuel cell vehicles at the Zhangjiakou competition zone during the Winter Olympic Games, set to begin on February 4, 2022. A Circular Solution to Plastic Waste

Sulzer.com/en, January 25, 2022: Sulzer Chemtech has finalized an agreement with Encina Development Group, LLC. Sulzer Chemtech will provide technology to recover high purity circular aromatics from cracked oil products derived from Encina’s mixed-plastics-to-aromatics catalytic conversion platform. Encina’s 1000 tons per day waste plastics recycling facility will be located in Northeast United States, and is expected to be operational in 2024. Read more...
Feasibility Study Completed for Soyuz Vostok Gas Pipeline Project

Gazprom.com, January 25, 2022: A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Sainbuyan Amarsaikhan, Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia, took place today via a video link. The parties signed a statement on the results of the consideration of the feasibility study for the Soyuz Vostok gas trunkline construction project. Read more...

IMF Worsens Forecast for Russia’s GDP Growth to 2.8% in 2022

1prime.biz, January 25, 2021: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has adjusted its forecast for Russia’s 2022 gross domestic product (GDP) growth to 2.8% from 2.9%, but upgraded the outlook for 2023 to 2.1% from 2%, the authority said in the World Economic Outlook published on Tuesday. Futures in New York closed 2% higher, with the global benchmark touching $90 a barrel earlier in the session on Wednesday. Concerns are mounting over a possible Russian incursion into Ukraine, with U.S. President Joe Biden saying he’d consider sanctioning Vladimir Putin if the Russian leader orders an invasion. Russia Struggles to Lift Oil Output Despite Wells at 5-year High

Worldoil.com, January 25, 2022: Russia’s operating oil wells reached the highest since OPEC and its allies joined forces, yet bringing back production curtailed under the current deal remains elusive. Last month, Russia pumped oil from more than 155,600 wells, according to Bloomberg calculations based on data from the Energy Ministry’s CDU-TEK unit. That’s the country’s highest number of active ones on a monthly basis since at least 2017, when Moscow partnered with the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries in coordinating output curbs to rebalance the market.
