We are also elated to announce a remarkable pledge of $100,000 from a prominent local business, underscoring the profound value of the USS Groton Sail Monument and its vital contribution to national defense.

Storyboard Committee

The Groton Sail storyboard committee has made substantial progress on the exhibit narrative, with draft text now prepared for approximately thirty panels. These panels introduce the USS Groton sail, Groton’s identity as the "Submarine Capital of the World," and the community that supports the fleet. The storyline covers submarine missions, life aboard the USS Groton, Naval Submarine Base New London, and the regional innovation ecosystem, including Electric Boat and the Navy’s undersea research laboratories. Historical sequences also trace the evolution of the U.S. Submarine Force from early experiments through the nuclear age.

With these drafts complete, the committee has begun a structured group editorial review. Our goal is to identify duplication, fill narrative gaps, ensure a consistent voice and reading level, and refine the drafts into a coherent, museum-quality experience that tells the story of Groton’s enduring role in the submarine force.
