USTAR RELEASES 2018 ANNUAL REPORT
USTAR recently released its annual report with highlights of its programs, events and economic impact for fiscal year 2018. 

“The past year demonstrated USTAR’s critical role in fostering technology-based economic development opportunities throughout Utah,” said Susan D. Opp, chair of the USTAR Governing Authority, in her introduction to the report. “USTAR’s success and effectiveness is due to both the caliber of its staff and unparalleled engagement by its Governing Authority members. I am proud of their commitment and focus to building Utah’s innovation infrastructure and the accomplishments of USTAR over the past year.”

The report includes calendar year 2017 private sector impact data of USTAR-supported clients. Key outcomes for the year include:
  • $62.7 million in follow-on investment
  • $22.1 million in commercialized product sales
  • 130 full-time, 76 part-time jobs created (206 total)

NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY-BASED ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE TO TAKE PLACE DEC. 3-5 IN SALT LAKE CITY 
USTAR will host the State Science & Technology Institute (SSTI) national conference in Salt Lake City on December 3-5 at the Downtown Marriott at City Creek.

The conference, which will spotlight Utah’s technology-based innovation landscape, will bring thought leaders and decision makers to the state from across the country to discuss the latest developments in creating an effective ecosystem for science and technology innovation, and entrepreneurship.

“We are excited to bring the conference to Salt Lake City, and we think attendees will have a lot to learn from the growing technology hub,” said Dan Berglund, president and CEO of SSTI. “Many places are struggling with ways to grow their innovation economies and Salt Lake City has been able to turn those struggles into positive growth that people will be able to experience during the conference.” . ..

UTAH’S USTAR TOUTED AT INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE AND DIPLOMACY CONFERENCE PANEL
On September 14, USTAR hosted a panel at the prestigious Science Diplomacy 2018 conference in Washington, D.C.

The panel, Think Locally to Impact Globally: Science Diplomacy at the State Level—which was written, proposed, and coordinated by USTAR—was led by former USTAR executive director Ivy Estabrooke, Ph.D., who now serves as the executive director for corporate executive programs at PolarityTE. During her time at USTAR, Estabrooke guided the agency to either meet or exceed its five-year performance metrics in just two years, including more than $123 million in follow-on funding for USTAR-supported companies.

Science Diplomacy 2018 was the fourth annual conference hosted by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Center for Science Diplomacy. 3D Printers Training provides users with practical information and hands-on experience operating the Stratasys, Dimension 1200es, Fiber Deposition Modeling (FDM) and the Objet 30Pro (Polyjet) 3D Printers at the Innovation Center. This course is an instructor-led hands-on experience

Oct 26: Waterjet Operator Training

Waterjet Operator Training is designed to give users practical information and hands-on experience operating the Waterjet at the Innovation Center. This course is an instructor-led hands-on experience. Participants will learn best practices for safe Waterjet use, how to setup and operate the machine and to use an existing design model to create a prototype part.
