USTAR’s NEW INNOVATION CENTER OPENING NOV 3
The USTAR Innovation Center, housed at the Falcon Hill National Aerospace Research Park
just outside the west gates of Hill Air Force Base, will officially open its doors November 3 with
an opening celebration to include Utah Governor Gary Herbert and Lt. Gen. Lee K. Levy II.

“We’re excited to see the opening of the USTAR Innovation Center,” said Ivy Estabrooke, Ph.D.,
USTAR executive director. “It will provide important access to sophisticated equipment, office space, mentoring, and proximity to strategic partners – all necessary components to grow Utah’s aerospace and advanced material sectors.”

BioINNOVATIONS GATEWAY GRADUATES FOUR COMPANIES
Open House and Graduation to be held October 19 from 4–6 pm

BioInnovations Gateway (BiG), a partnership between USTAR and Granite School District, is excited to announce the graduation of four of its companies. An open house and graduation program will be held Thursday, October 19, from 4-6 p.m. at the Granite Education Center in South Salt Lake where BiG is located.

“It has been exciting to observe how the leadership and drive of the graduating companies supplemented by critical resources like BiG have helped them to become sustainable in the competitive life science market,” said Marytheresa Ifediba, Ph.D, USTAR Life Science Program Manager.

USTAR'S IVY ESTABROOKE FEATURED ON COOL SCIENCE RADIO
In the first segment of the program, hosts John Wells and Lynn Ware Peek talk with Ivy Estabrooke who is the Executive Director of USTAR, an acronym that stands for Utah Science Technology and Research Initiative. USTAR was established in 2006 to leverage science and technology innovation to diversify Utah’s knowledge economy. They will talk with Ivy about programs, research, partnerships and more.

Innovation Idol: Can You Pitch to a 5th Grader  is coming up on Wednesday October 25 th  at The Leonardo, in partnership with USTAR. It's a first of its kind evening where leading technology, apparel and medical entrepreneurs pitch a panel of 5th grade judges for hard cash! Some other awesome details include:
 
  • Kickoff Speaker Paul Chung: Columbia University Fellow and researcher in Learning, Innovation and Play.  
  • $500 Audience Favorite Award, so come vote for your favorite innovator!
  • Be part of an event that is redefining the traditional pitch competition, and support entrepreneurs in our community looking to change the world in ways big and small.
 The WeRoc Conference is a one day event to be held October 26, 2017 at Salt Lake Community College to investigate the “WHY” and the “HOW” of women raising funds for their companies.

The morning keynote will be given by Carolyn Rodz founder of Alice which is featured in Fortune, Inc., Fast Company, Entrepreneur and more. She has helped raise billions of dollars of capital for innovative organizations, created a luxury retail line that sold in over 400 stores worldwide, including Neiman Marcus, Harrod’s, and Bloomingdales, and later launched a global marketing firm that supported specialty product launches within Fortune 500 enterprises and startups positioning themselves for industry leadership. Carolyn now serves as an advocate for women entrepreneurs, connecting them to sources of capital, strategic partners, and mentors to create businesses that scale.
