Sharing Health and Wellness as We Close the Year

As we prepare to welcome a new year, it's the perfect time to reflect on goals that inspire growth, connection, and well-being. At USU Extension, we are kicking off the year by highlighting programs that strengthen relationships, empower teen leadership, and promote healthier lifestyles. From activities that encourage teens to lead with purpose to initiatives that support nutrition and wellness, these efforts align perfectly with the spirit of New Year’s resolutions—helping individuals and communities thrive throughout the year ahead.

Improving Relationships -

Hidden Gems Adventure Guides



The USU Hidden Gems Adventure Guides are free online resources for families and couples. They offer one-hour activities that promote social-emotional learning. Online surveys showed improvements in family and couple outcomes in several important aspects, such as spending time together and communication skills.

Impacts of the Virtual Utah Marriage Celebration


The Utah Marriage Celebration is a popular annual virtual event designed to educate and

entertain couples while strengthening their relationships. Participants experience improvements in their relationship skills, commitment level, and overall relationship strength. The event’s virtual format reduces common participation barriers and ensures its sustainability into the future.

Outcomes and Impacts of a Statewide Teen

Leadership


 The Junior Youth Conference (JYC) Teen Leadership program provides opportunities for Utah teens to plan and implement experiential workshops for 5th-6th graders throughout the state.

Evaluation results indicate that teens developed leadership skills, increased self-awareness, and gained effective communication skills, thereby increasing protective factors and mitigating risky behaviors.

Assessing the Impact of the SNAP-Ed Social Marketing Campaign



The Create Better Health (CBH) social marketing team shares practical nutrition tips, budget- friendly recipes, and resources to reinforce direct education class messages through social media platforms. An evaluation project aimed to refine Utah SNAP-Ed’s social marketing strategy. Methods included a literature review, a needs assessment survey, a strategy update, and an evaluation survey. Results showed increased engagement and motivation for healthier choices. The public value lies in reducing disparities and enhancing statewide health outcomes.

Erase and Replace: A Series of Health & Wellness Activities



Utah State University Extension faculty addressed Utah's high rate of poor mental health with

activities that improved participants’ connections, confidence, and abilities. These efforts

positively impacted adults' mental health and quality of life and offered an additional resource to address self-care needs while encouraging connection and skill-building.
