26 th Annual Destination Symposium
We'd like to thank all of our members for a fun and successful Destination Symposium! We had an excellent time sharing the best of the USVI and look forward to continuing to work alongside our travel partners to promote the territory. After the event, Expedia Group Market Manager Kimberly Saren said, “We had such a great time! I’m really glad that we were able to be a part of this. Virgin Islander Heroes Honored by Carnival Cruise Line, WICO and Local Officials
Virgin Islander heroes Kashief Hamilton and Randolph Donovan, Jr. were honored this week by Carnival Cruise Line, The West Indian Company Limited (WICO) and local officials for rescuing a wheelchair-bound cruise passenger who accidentally fell off the WICO dock on St. Thomas last week. The two men were acknowledged in a ceremony on board Carnival Fascination, the ship which carried the rescued passenger. Read more .
VIPA Demolishing Derelict Building in Crown Bay
The Virgin Islands Port Authority is demolishing the former “Kline Building” located adjacent to Crown Bay Center, St. Thomas. This is the first of a series of demolitions planned for several derelict buildings owned by VIPA in the Crown Bay District. The removal of the unsightly structures is in line with VIPA’s vision to revitalize the district for residents and visitors’ enjoyment. The demolition is being performed by Cross Island Builders (selected via a competitive bidding process) at a cost of $247,489.20, and should be completed by the end of this week. VIPA is in the process of acquiring permits to demolish its other dilapidated and hurricane-damaged properties territory-wide.
Reinvented Vacation Villas Now Open as The Hills, Saint John
A new management group has recently completed extensive renovations and upgrades to the former hurricane damaged Sirenusa property. The 22-villa destination has been elevated to new levels of sophisticated Caribbean charm and has rebranded as The Hills, Saint John. “The Hills is pleased to add to the increasingly robust room inventory for the U.S. Virgin Islands. Our multi family villas and the wide array of highly recommended restaurants and attractions on St. John make for the ultimate island getaway,” said Villa Association President David Adams. “We are looking forward to a very active season for The Hills and the people of St. John.” Read more .
