Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a proclamation designating May as Hurricane Preparedness Month in the territory, as states and territories in the United States are observing National Hurricane Preparedness Month to raise awareness for emergency and hurricane preparedness. Bryan also designated May 3-9 as Hurricane Preparedness Week in the USVI. “Emergency preparedness is the responsibility of every resident. It takes a team effort to ensure that we are ready for any disaster,” Bryan said in his proclamation. “I encourage individuals, families, organizations and businesses within our community to make emergency plans, put together an emergency supply kit and join in local efforts to become a community preparedness partner.” Hurricane Season begins officially around the country on June 1.
