Coral World Ocean Park Reaches Across the Atlantic for Livestream Session with Autistic Children
On April 28, Coral World staff provided a 30-minute guided tour of the park to children with Autism Spectrum disorders and their families in Sheffield, England. Through videoconferencing, the children and their families were able to see and learn about turtles, sharks and dolphins, and discover ways in which they could help protect them in the wild. Gov. Bryan Proclaims May as Hurricane Preparedness Month in the USVI
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. issued a proclamation designating May as Hurricane Preparedness Month in the territory, as states and territories in the United States are observing National Hurricane Preparedness Month to raise awareness for emergency and hurricane preparedness. Bryan also designated May 3-9 as Hurricane Preparedness Week in the USVI. “Emergency preparedness is the responsibility of every resident. It takes a team effort to ensure that we are ready for any disaster,” Bryan said in his proclamation. “I encourage individuals, families, organizations and businesses within our community to make emergency plans, put together an emergency supply kit and join in local efforts to become a community preparedness partner.” Hurricane Season begins officially around the country on June 1.
VIEDA Reminds VIEDC Eligible Suppliers to Submit Annual Filings
To assist lo cal small businesses in remaining in good standing as Eligible Suppliers of the Virgin Islands Economic Development Commission (VIEDC), Chief Executive Officer of the Virgin Islands Economic Development Authority, Kamal I. Latham, reminds all Eligible Virgin Islands Suppliers that all required annual filings must be submitted to the VIEDC to avoid decertification. Read more .
Deadline to Apply for a VIPCA Marine Apprenticeship is May 18
Enrollment is open for the 2020 VIPCA Marine Apprenticeship course, set for July 3 to August 5. Those who are 18- to 30-years of age, are interested in this FREE educational gateway into the territory’s marine tourism sector, are graduates (or will be this year) of a U.S. Virgin Islands’ public high school, and U.S. Virgin Islands’ residents, have until May 18 to apply at www.vipca.org/youth-training. Road Town Fast Ferry Amends its Schedule for Cargo-Only Trips to St. Thomas
Road Town Fast Ferry has informed the Virgin Islands Port Authority that its schedule for cargo-only trips to St. Thomas will be amended. The ferry company will not have scheduled pickups on Tuesdays. Thursdays and Saturdays. Instead, the ferry will visit St. Thomas for scheduled cargo pickups at the Edward W. Blyden IV Marine Terminal in accordance with pre-arranged trips approved by the British Virgin Islands’ Government. Such trips will be approved on a case by case basis. Read more .
