ASK LEE |
Q: I've recently started having problems with small primers not feeding smoothly in my XL 650 press. I've inspected and cleaned everything in the primer feed system and even measured this batch of primers but still have the occasional hangup ... especially when the primer level is low. I've had this press for many years and never had this problem. Should I try adding weight to the Primer Rod? A: Adding weight might make your primers feed better but, since this is a new problem on your press, it is always best to find and correct the root cause of the problem. You said that you cleaned everything but did that include cleaning the inside of the Primer Magazine Tube? If not, try running a bore patch dampened with rubbing alcohol down the tube. You can use the Primer Follower Rod to push the patch through. Run a dry patch through and make certain it has had enough time to be perfectly dry before reinstalling in your press. I got into the habit of doing this about once a year on my own 650 press. R: Followed your instructions and was amazed at how much grunge came out of the primer magazine tube. But then its never been cleaned it in the life of the press. The primers do seem to feed better now but have only loaded a few dozen rounds to test it. Will let you know if it is completely fixed or not after my next reloading session. |
