This list is managed by the Women in Engineering Program (WEP) and serves as a resource for WEP event and deadline announcements and for select UT information.
 UT Austin STEM Summer Opportunities

CREATEatUT is a summer day camp for women going into their sophomore or junior years of high school who have an interest in math, science or engineering held on the UT Austin Campus. CREATEatUT introduces students to a variety of engineering studies and exciting career options, exposes students to female engineering role models through hands-on workshops and engineering sessions facilitated and attended by engineering students, faculty and industry professionals. Each day focuses on a different discipline and/or theme of engineering to provide focused hands-on activities, demonstrations and/or tours, and connections with role models.

WEatUT High School Camp

Women Engineers at The University of Texas at Austin (WEatUT) is an overnight program for rising high school senior women. At WEatUT, participants will explore how engineering benefits society and impacts the world through e ngineering sessions (tours, presentations and activities) led by industry professionals, engineering faculty and graduate students, i nteractive introductions to a variety of engineering areas and exciting career options, and c reative engineering design and fun hands-on engineering projects.

CODE @ TACC is a two-week summer program for rising high school juniors and seniors that fosters talent and creativity in students using the principles of computing technology, including microcomputers and real-world examples. In addition to interactive, hands-on activities and high-level engagement with researchers, the program includes presentations and industry site visits that increase awareness about STEM careers in computing. No prior programming experience is required.

Expanding Your Horizons Conference
April 9, 2016 - San Antonio, TX
This one-day conference for 6th-8th grade girls encourages them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Various workshops will be led by successful women in business, science, and education. Attendance is limited to 250 girls and the cost is $5 to attend. Register today!

2016 STEM + Art Fiesta
April 7 - 8, 2016 - 
El Paso, TX 
The purpose of STEM Fiesta is to increase awareness of educational and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematic fields. Each year local students compete in a variety of competitions for prize money, school recognition and awards. This year there will be a total of seven competitions to compete in.

College Station, TX 
The Department of Physics & Astronomy and the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University invite the public to an entertaining and informative event. People of all ages will find funny, puzzling, and fascinating hands-on experiments. Everyone is invited to participate.

April 16, 2016 - Waco, TX
Come to Texas State Technical College's Waco Campus and break out your inner science lover as we work with engineers, chemists, graphic artists, and physicists to unveil the world of science in an all-day conference. The day will be filled with hands-on, minds-on workshops to empower girls in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.

San Antonio, TX - Heroes Stadium 
This day-long festival introduces girls of all ages to hands-on, minds-on opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The event is FREE for the community and brings together organizations to empower girls to be strong, smart, and bold in STEM-fields.

Zero Robotics Programming Challenge
Applications due April 18th!
Zero Robotics is a computer programming challenge for middle school and high school students designed to cultivate interest in Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) by giving middle and high school students unprecedented access to the International Space Station (ISS). Students learn to control free-flying satellites known as Synchronized Position Hold, Engage, Reorient, Experimental Satellites (SPHERES) aboard the ISS, through computer programming and simulations. Finalists ultimately go head-to-head against teams from across the country (middle school) or world (high school), while astronauts referee the final competition live from space.

2016 dv3x2 Internship Program
Applications due April 18th!
Since the program began in 2010, this unique internship opportunity has provided high school students interested in design in Austin an opportunity to get a glimpse into a career in architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, graphic design, engineering, and construction. With a grant from the Austin Foundation for Architecture, students who are accepted and complete the dv3x2 Internship Program will have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship.

Applications open for high school women who plan to take their first physics course in the fall
Design Connect Create! is an immersive hands-on experience for every student to explore and have fun with physics.  Students form a deep understanding and build confidence to move forward and persist in STEM.  Labs, female guest speakers, interactive problem solving and engineering challenges fill our action packed days as we explore classic and modern topics in physics.

Taught by UTSA faculty members, it is a two week hands-on program held in June in the design studios of the UTSA Architecture building downtown campus.  The program is intended to help interested high school students determine whether architecture or interior design is right for them by engaging in field trips to local design firms and construction sites as well as in design exercises that introduce basic design skills such as: sketching, creative and spatial thinking, model making, and the organization of architectural information

The San Antonio Pre-Engineering Robotics and Java Programming Summer Program is a special two-week summer program designed to give middle school and high school students with an interest in science and engineering an opportunity to explore engineering as a career. We will award accepted students scholarships to cover the expense of the camp, depending on students' qualification and availability of the funding!
   Resources & Contests
Registration closes April 7th
Code Quest is a computer programming competition consisting of 15 - 20 questions created by Lockheed Martin engineers and computer programmers. Teams of two to three students work together for 2.5 hours to answer the questions and complete the Quest.

Applications due April 15th
The Dallas Section of the Society of Women Engineers offers scholarships to graduating seniors from Region 10 high schools who will be majoring in Engineering and to SWE collegiate section members who have demonstrated leadership skills.  Scholarships for high school seniors are awarded based on academic excellence and need.
