March 21, 2024
I have been very excited this past week to share our Match results with all! You might notice that our already robust incoming class is a little bit bigger this year – we have expanded the Psychiatry/Neurology Combined program to two incoming residents. There are several reasons for us to be proud of this continued growth. First, there is still enormous unmet need for psychiatrists of every kind in North Texas and beyond. So many people living with a mental or substance use disorder will never see a psychiatrist, and the problems of access are unevenly distributed, often with people most in need having the fewest available options. Second, because of the amazing depth and breadth of our department, we can train outstanding psychiatrists with a very rare combination of skills. Our graduates think rigorously about diagnosis and formulation, are up to date with the latest in interventional options, understand the enormous power cultural and social forces have to either crush or elevate the human spirit, integrate the cutting edge brain research into their care and conversations with patients, and approach each patient with humility and curiosity about the depths of their experience. Our incoming residents are an incredibly diverse and accomplished group, and we’re looking forward to supporting them in this crucial work!
