CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, FEBRUARY 23, 2018 -
STEAM Teaching Artist Tekelia C. Kelly has been accepted to present "Hacking The Code To The Underground Railroad Today" at the 2018 Black Issues Summit at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC). The Summit will take place Saturday, February 24, 2018, from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., in the University Center. Ms. Kelly's will discuss and demonstrate how she infuses STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) and history during Block # 2 at 10:50 a.m.

Using African American history, folk tale, faith, and music, Tekelia C. Kelly's "Hacking The Code To The Underground Railroad Today" provides revolutionary instruction that empowers coding. Participants will learn how coding during the Underground Railroad can empower coding today, using hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering Art, and Math) activities that develop critical thinking, creativity, "love and logic," innovative and problem-solving skills.
Tekelia C. Kelly carries a variety of roles – entrepreneur, engineer, educator, editor and entertainer – but largely focuses on reaching and teaching students of all learning styles using her CODA curriculum and Pre-employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS). She is dedicated to moving students "full STEAM ahead" from school to the world of work more successfully.
CODA offers K-12 students STEAM project-based learning, with STEM plus the Arts, including coding, inventing, singing, storytelling and history. Pre-ETS offers students ages 14-22 job-readiness skills for going from school to work. These programs are excellent for academic, career and vo- technical education at school, home school, church, vacation Bible school, youth groups, and community organizations. Free services are available for eligible students with disabilities.
