UTILITY WORK WITHIN CLEVELAND STREET MEDIAN
IN VIRGINIA BEACH SET TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK
VIRGINIA BEACH – As construction progresses on the Virginia Department of Transportation’s I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvements Project, crews will begin utility work in the median of Cleveland Street, starting as early as Monday, Nov. 16.

The project contractor plans to close the median on Cleveland Street in 300-foot
sections beginning at Clearfield Avenue and heading east toward Witchduck Road. Only one 300-foot section of median will be closed at a time.

Crews will work nightly on each 300-foot section of the median for approximately three weeks before moving east to the next section. Travel lanes in each direction will be open each day, with the center lane remaining blocked, which will prohibit left turns.

This work will require crews to break up existing pavement in order to replace a sanitary sewer line. As a result, nearby properties could experience construction noise and vibration during the allowed work hours.

Ultimately, the work on Cleveland Street will lead to the connection of Cleveland Street with Greenwich Road via the new flyover bridge over I-264.
The above rendering depicts the completed Greenwich Road flyover, which spans I-264 and connects Greenwich Road on the south side of the interstate to Cleveland Street on the north.
