This Fall, come enjoy scrumptious local food at a local restaurant with your local church friends. A portion of the night’s proceeds are given to the church. Reserve your place at Gather.
Coffee Hosting Calendar
Committees, councils, and groups at First U are signed up for a turn to host coffee hour. Mariana Tupper will be contacting your group a few weeks ahead of time with a reminder, but you can also view the schedule for the year here or look for it in the church's kitchen by the coffee brewing instructions.

Your friendly face could make ALL the difference to new folks as they walk through our doors. Attend a mini-training (just a half hour!) if you're new to ushering/greeting and then sign up to greet at worship services or events when you're available. Cold Weather Clothes Drive for New Mainers

Many refugees and asylum-seekers who arrive in Maine bring almost no possessions with them, and most have never experienced the cold of a Maine winter. Please consider donating new or clean, gently used boots, jackets, gloves, hats, and scarves. Click to view specific sizes needed.

Help Young Adult UUs Attend the 2018 International Council of UUs
The Unitarian Universalist Partner Church Council is asking for donations to support a gathering of international UU young adults in India in 2018. These funds support young adults from outside of North America to participate. Visit their faithify campaign to find out more.
The Guys Next Door Documentary Film
Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 7 pm
The Faith-In-Action Council invites you to a free screening of the film The Guys Next Door at Merrill Memorial Library in Yarmouth. This award-winning feature-length documentary about family, friendship, and gay rights "goes well beyond issues of surrogacy and gay parenthood and explores the humanity that connects us all." The screening will be followed by a Q&A with one of the filmmakers and one of the film's subjects.
Preble Street Resource Center

First Universalist is committed to sending six volunteers on the first Tuesday of every month to Preble Street's Soup Kitchen to help prepare and serve dinner. Up to 400 people are served at Preble Street where they can receive three meals per day, every day of the year. Deepen your commitment to your UU values and make new friends: sign-up to volunteer by contacting Phyllis Chinlund at pchinlund@gmail.com.
COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Fall Yoga Session at First Universalist starts Saturday, September 23rd. Classes are 10:00 - 11:15 AM at the church. This is a multi-level class. Donation requested: $10. One-half of the funds collected go to the church and one-half to a charity selected with the class. Contact: Lois Howlett at loishowlett2@gmail.com or 847-3055. Newcomers welcome.
The First Universalist Church of West Paris is hosting a Pete Seeger Songfest with composer and guitarist Jim Scott on Sunday, October 1 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Refreshments will be provided after the concert along with the opportunity to purchase CDs. There is a suggested donation of $10 - $20.

The Greater Freeport Community Chorus is looking for more singers, especially tenors and basses. Weekly rehearsals take place on Sundays from 6:30 - 9 pm with special winter concert performances.

The group is an adult, mixed-voice choir. No audition or previous experience with choral singing is required. Membership dues: $70/individual, $120/couple. For more information call 844-1166, visit  www.gfccsings.org  or find the chorus on Facebook.

A UU Minister from Mississippi announced that he is running for the U.S. Congress.

As of September 13, donations to the UUA and UUSC Hurricane Harvey Recovery Fund were approaching $250,000.

Please note that Friday and Saturdays are typically her days off - Rev. Jennifer does not check email on these days, but will answer any crisis or emergency calls.
