Passing the Baton

Stepping  into the role of Treasurer can be challenging.

For instance, you might not yet know that the Plan is a 401(k), and that when you remit contributions the memo of the check must include the Plan number (404921), your location ID (which is your UUA member church ID in most cases), and the pay period(s) covered by the remitted funds.
 
Do you know about all the ways that an em ployee can become eligible for the Employer's Retirement Contributions? Here's just one way:
 
Any employee who has  successfully completed a UU ministerial internship is immediately eligible for the Employer's Retirement Contributions. 

How does the congregation's leadership (or the former Treasurer?) help to ensure that both the "How" and the "Why" of a Treasurer's responsibilities are passed along?

Linda and Joshua, the UUA's Retirement Plan staff, are eager to assist if the baton was dropped, lost, or broken while it was being passed to you.

The Employer:

 

Each employer that offers the Plan is responsible for the Plan's administration. Employees who have questions about the Plan, who want to verify their employer's timely remittance of contributions, or who have questions about their eligibility can make inquiries of their employer. The employer is to provide each employee with a copy of the Employer's Participation Agreement with the Plan, as a springboard to explaining this employee benefit plan.
