Reminded your staff how the UU Organizations Retirement Plan can be of benefit to them?

Remember, every employee (age 18 or over) can save for their retirement in our Retirement Plan via salary reduction, regardless of hours or length of service!

  • Here's a more granular checklist to use as a script both when informing employees about the UU Retirement Plan at year's end, and when welcoming new employees.

Done a "look back" review of Hours of Service of your employees who have not yet satisfied the Plan's Year of Eligibility Service (which makes them eligible for Employer's Contributions)?

  • If an employee has just met the provision as of 12-31-2017, they are eligible for Employer's Contributions starting 01-01-2018. (Remember, no one has to re-satisfy the provision, even if their hours are reduced after they've qualified.)

Compared your budget to actuals and discern whether all of the contributions due to the employees have been remitted properly to TIAA, the Plan's Recordkeeper?

Contacted your accountant or other support persons with issues or questions? For next year, plan to reach out throughout the year. This helps to ensure that your work is on target, and helps avoid a scramble at the end of the calendar year.

The Employer:


Each employer that offers the Plan is responsible for the Plan's administration. Employees who have questions about the Plan, who want to verify their employer's timely remittance of contributions, or who have questions about their eligibility can make inquiries of their employer. The employer is to provide each employee with a copy of the Employer's Participation Agreement with the Plan, as a springboard to explaining this employee benefit plan.
