Action of Immediate Witness Feedback Poll

The Commission on Social Witness received many wonderful proposed draft Actions of Immediate Witness (AIW). An Action of Immediate Witness (AIW) is a statement about a significant action, event, or development in the world that necessitates immediate engagement and action among UU member congregations and groups.

After careful consideration and thoughtful revisions by proposers, the Commission finds that five proposed AIWs meet the AIW criteria. However, the Commission may only put forward three proposed AIWs for consideration during General Assembly, per UUA bylaws. Can you please help the Commission narrow the list to three? To help, please complete the AIW proposal feedback poll by Sunday, June 19 at 8 PM ET.

As you complete the poll, please carefully review each AIW linked in the poll, and consider how well they meet these criteria:

An AIW must:
  • Pertain to an issue that requires immediate action
  • Call on UUA member congregations and groups to take specific meaningful action
  • Present an opportunity for member congregations to build partnership and/or act in solidarity with marginalized groups beyond and within the association
  • Be grounded in UU theology and practice
  • Be crafted in anti-oppressive and inclusive language that is conducive to justice

An AIW must not:

To help the Commission on Social Witness, follow this link to complete the AIW proposal feedback poll by Sunday, June 19 at 8 PM ET.

After you complete the poll, we invite you to go to the AIW proposal page to review all the linked statements, including those that did not meet the AIW criteria. Although the AIW criteria were not met by all, we believe all of the proposed action statements we received contain important ideas about how we live our UU faith in a hurting world.
For the first time, your UUA Board of Trustees invites the wider UUA community to virtually attend the luncheon honoring the 2022 recipient of the Award for Distinguished Service to the Cause of Unitarian Universalism – the Rev. Dr. William G. Sinkford. We hope you’ll join us from wherever you are!

Policy on Disruptions and Unscheduled Events and Literature Distribution

General Assembly strives to be an inclusive community, affirming our diversity of beliefs, backgrounds, and life experiences. When unscheduled events, protests, disruptive, discriminatory, or harassing behavior compromises the health and safety of this community, our actions as people of faith must reflect an emphasis on security and wellbeing of all participants. During a multi-platform event, it is especially important that the program follows its plans for inclusion and accessibility of both onsite and online attendees, and its commitments to COVID safety for onsite attendees.
