Opportunity for Good:
Dr. Susan Frederick-Gray, President of the Unitarian Universalist Association released the following statement on Jun 23, 2021: “As a Unitarian Universalist minister I call on all Senators to follow their elected duty and moral conscience to maintain the integrity of our democracy and voting rights…pass the For the People Act, end the filibuster, and let the voice of the people be heard."

Senator Dianne Feinstein supports S1, the For the People Act, but she objects to changing the filibuster rules. And without a change in filibuster rules, this bill is unlikely to pass the United States Senate. To get a daily reminder to call Senator Feinstein's office about her position about the filibuster, you can text the word DEMOCRACY to 333-39.
Food for Our Souls:
UUCC Gallery View Sunday, August 15th, 11am
The topic for our August 15th Gallery View Sunday is "Why Ritual Matters." Bill Heavlin will provide a short introduction on some of our more common UU traditional rituals such as the Flower Communion, Water Communion, Burning Bowl, and others. After which, we will watch a short video by Dr. Andrew Mark Henry on the topic. The discussion following will involve questions on your favorite UU rituals or other rituals which have moved you. And in typical UU fashion, we also invite people to agree or disagree with the assertion that there is a place for ritual in modern times.

Dr. Andrew has worked on the forefront of online religious literacy education as the host and founder of the religious studies YouTube channel, Religion for Breakfast, with over 155 videos and 329,000 subscribers. Religion for Breakfast approaches religion as an academic subject through the lenses of sociology, anthropology, history, and cognitive science.

Link to 6th Anniversary Service on YouTube
We've had many positive comments about Esther Wallace's sermon on Sunday, August 1st. So we want to provide you with a link to the entire service. We won't receive a final tally for ALAS fundraiser until the beginning of September, as money is still coming in. If you weren't able to attend the service, we encourage you to watch the service on UUCC's YouTube channel by clicking this link. Thanks to our Technical Director, Bruce Rafnel, we now have 14 beautifully edited, full services uploaded to YouTube. Please visit UUCC's channel and remember to hit the subscribe button. With 100 subscribers, YouTube's algorithm gives UUCC more outreach potential. And a huge thanks to all of you who participated in donating to ALAS and celebrating UUCC's 6th year on the Coast.
UUCC First Sunday Service, Sept. 5th, 11am
Improv comedy, that sounds like fun, right? But reasoned, or reasonable? Or spiritual, even?

The Touchstones Theme for September is Reason. And on September 5, our beloved Bill Heavlin returns to reconsider reason through the lens of improv comedy, in a service entitled "Laughter and the Rich Ground of Reason."

And, and, he discovers that reason and improv are both verbs! And he also offers some important insights about the core of Unitarian Universalism. Join us for this Sunday before Labor Day, September 5, at 11am. And bring (or borrow) a smile. Because it's your day off.

As always, beautiful music will be provided by Tom Devine and the UUCC Choir with LindaGrace Frost.
