Charity Navigator is a world-wide trusted resource that rates non-profits based on financial health, accountability, and transparency. As millions of Ukrainians are fleeing the country due to Russian military aggression, Ukraine is facing a potential large-scale humanitarian crisis. Charity Navigator has compiled a list of non-profits which are providing a humanitarian response to the current the Ukrainian-Russian Conflict. Some of those non-profits include: Direct Relief, Center for Disaster Philanthropy, and Save the Children. Sonrisas Dental Health (formerly known as the Coastside Dental Collaborative) began in 1996 to address the gap in dental services for low-income Coastside residents, especially farmworkers. Today, Sonrisas has two locations—in San Mateo and Half Moon Bay—and offers a wide range of services including free dental screenings at local public schools. Jewish esoteric teachings, arising and flourishing in response to extreme social conditions, affirm not only life’s painful complexity, but also our capacity to navigate between and to balance extremes. What might they offer us today? What does it take to survive and thrive, to feel resilient and empowered in difficult times?
Stefanie Etzbach-Dale is a Unitarian Universalist Minister with 20 years of service to congregations in the Pacific Midwestern Region. Now affiliated with the UU Church of Palo Alto, she works as a Spiritual Director focusing on “building spiritual courage and resilience” through private spiritual direction sessions, group retreats and workshops, public speaking, art, and an active social media ministry. UUCC "Sharing the Pulpit" Sunday, March 20th, 11am |

Please join us on March 20th as Noreen Cooper Heavlin presents a sermon titled “Anger: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.” Most of the world's religions counsel against anger even when many religions worship an angry god or deities. Anger can be a critical life-saving tool in life or death situations. Yet unmanaged anger can lead to high blood pressure, headache, heart attack, and stroke. Noreen explores her own personal journey from repressing anger in her youth to over-expressing it as an adult. She explores how we might navigate this complex human emotion without falling into serious consequences which come from unchecked anger.
Noreen has a Master's in Library and Information Science and is a professional organizer by trade. She is one of UUCC's founders and Chair of the UUCC Planning Committee. Along with the many things Noreen does for UUCC Zoom productions, she is learning to speak Spanish. She enjoys hiking, cooking, learning new things, and feels she has already won the lottery simply by living on the beautiful Coastside.

Verna Barientos is now a Licensed Clinical Social Worker after completing all of her requirements, including over 3,000 hours of supervised clinical work plus a rigorous exam. Verna is a longtime UUCC attendee and frequent Worship Associate on Zoom. Her husband, David Marsland, and we couldn't be prouder of her.

Clovice Lewis will celebrate his ordination as a Unitarian Universalist Minister at his home congregation at UU Community of Lake County on March 26th at 2pm PST. Due to ongoing concerns about COVID safety, Only about forty people can attend in person—mostly his immediate family, other clergy, and people helping to perform the actual ordination.

Vera Vanderschalk is settled in a beautifully decorated, two-bedroom apartment in Pacifica after many years of housing insecurity. Vera is an enormously talented classical guitarist whose music is played often during UUCC services. Like many musicians on the Coast, housing can be a problem with rising rental prices. Vera spent a few months at Coast House recently and with the help of a fantastic social services team, she was given a voucher to help with Bay Area housing costs. We are hoping to host a housewarming party for Vera in the very near future. We couldn't be happier for her.

Volunteer Jobs in Under 30 Minutes a Month |

A great recommendation from our recent Congregational Meeting was to offer volunteer opportunities that would require less than 30 minutes a month. Here are a few volunteer jobs we could really use your help with:
(1) Learn how to spotlight speakers during our 1st and 3rd Sunday Services. Simply hover your cursor over the person you want to spotlight, click on the ‘…’ (ellipsis) menu, and choose Spotlight.
(2) Volunteer as the breakout room host for First or Third Sunday services.
(3) Invite two friends to Subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Or volunteer to coach a regular attendee on how to subscribe to UUCC's YouTube channel.
(4) Invite a friend to attend one of our services online.
(5) Be a Chalice Lighter for a Third Sunday service. After a half hour training, no rehearsals are required.
(6) Find quote memes for our twice-monthly newsletter on monthly Touchstones themes.
(7) Suggest poems, inspirational quotes, YouTube music links, social action notices, and articles of interest for UUCC's Facebook page.
(8) Coordinate the Compassionate Caring Committee requests with posts to our Compassionate Caring Committee Mailing List.

UUCC Planning Committee Meeting Highlights |

Below are some key decisions from UUCC's Planning Committee meetings for January and February 2022:
- Discussed plans to construct a survey to poll people on alternative programming options and comfortability with meeting in person again.
- Follow up with UUSM on getting an insurance rider to rent out Odd Fellows Hall.
- Discussed plans on how to broadcast hybrid services from Odd Fellows Hall for those not wanting to meet in person.
- Discussed plans for an Opening Day Ceremony when we return to in- person services again.
- Scheduled Shared Pulpit graduate speakers on every third Sunday through August.
- Shared notes from community meetings UUCC attended at CoastPride Interfaith Partners, Coastside Collaborative, and PWR UUA small congregations monthly meeting.
