Opportunities for Good:
In the words of Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray, president of the Unitarian Universalist Association, “we continue to join in solidarity with so many around the world and pray for the people of Ukraine. Our hearts go out to those who are enduring devastating loss of life, violence, instability, and upheaval due to Russia’s unprovoked invasion. Our UU faith calls us to remain committed to justice and we believe we have a moral responsibility to support the creation of peace and the equal rights of all people.” There are many organizations accepting donations for Ukraine. To donate to the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) to support their work with Ukrainian war refugees, click here to donate to the UUSC Emergency Response Fund.
Fixin’ San Mateo County (FxSMC) is a local grassroots organization working to enact effective civilian oversight of the County Sheriff’s Office.

LifeMoves is a nonprofit organization which provides interim housing and supportive services for unhoused families and individuals to bolster a rapid return to stable housing. CoastHouse in Half Moon Bay is one of many shelters under the auspices of LifeMoves. Linens, blankets, pillows, and towels are among the greatest needs across all of its shelters and programs. By contributing to their linen drive, you can ensure the necessary warmth and comfort of a good night's sleep to someone transitioning to a new home. UUCC "Sharing the Pulpit" Sunday, March 20th, 11am
The Touchstones theme for March is Balance. Please join us on March 20th as Noreen Cooper Heavlin presents a sermon titled “Anger: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.” Most of the world's religions counsel against anger even when many religions worship an angry god or deities. Anger can be a critical life-saving tool in life or death situations. Yet unmanaged anger can lead to high blood pressure, headache, heart attack, and stroke. Noreen explores her own personal journey from repressing anger in her youth to over-expressing it as an adult. She explores how we might navigate this complex human emotion without falling into serious consequences which come from unchecked anger.

Noreen has a Master's in Library and Information Science and is a professional organizer by trade. She is one of UUCC's founders and Chair of the UUCC Planning Committee. Along with the many things Noreen does for UUCC, she is learning Spanish. She enjoys hiking, cooking, learning new things, and feels she has already won the lottery simply by living on the beautiful Coastside.

For the Order of Service, click here.
Please join us at 11:00 am Pacific, 2pm Eastern.
Gathering for service and music begin at 10:50 am.

UUCC First Sunday Service, April 3rd, 11am
The Touchstones Theme for April is Theological Reflection. We are so happy to welcome Esther Wallace back to the UUCC pulpit on April 3rd, with a sermon entitled “Peshat, Remez, Derash, Sod: Making Meaning Through the Texts of Our Lives.” Our dominant culture idealizes productivity as a measure of our worth, frequently devaluing practices of rest and spiritual reflection. If we seek to cultivate practices of theological reflection, we often encounter both cultural resistance and a sense of being overwhelmed by our options (or lack thereof). Drawing from Jewish exegetical practices, Buddhist teachings, and embodied awareness, this sermon considers the questions: what does it mean to practice theological reflection? What does theological reflection mean in a Unitarian Universalist context? How do we navigate the intersection of our particular, individual spiritual identities with our collective theological meaning-making?
Our Hearts are Breaking Here on the Coast
With great heartbreak we report that on February 20th, a key founder to UUCC's success, Sandy Calman, lost her son Daniel Calman, after his fall and subsequent acute brain injury. At the time of his death, Daniel was a sophomore in college and was studying forensic science with a focus in genetics. His obituary was printed in this past week's issue of the Half Moon Bay Review.

Here is an excerpt from his obituary: "Although Daniel is no longer with us in life, his essence lives on with each succulent we plant, each rock we tuck into our pocket, and every game we play with friends. He is with us each time we wear a pair of colorful, mismatched socks, go wild on the drums, or share a quiet moment on the beach with those closest to us. Perhaps most of all, Daniel is with us whenever we embrace life to its fullest, treating each moment as a grand adventure waiting to unfold."

Meals, cards and any form of support would be greatly appreciated by Sandy and her family. Please address cards to Sandra Calman, MD, P.O. Box 371527, Montara, CA 94037-1527. If you would like to drop off a meal, please contact us at uucoastside@gmail.com for Sandy's email address.
Volunteer Jobs in Under 30 Minutes a Month
A great recommendation from our recent Congregational Meeting was to offer volunteer opportunities that would require less than 30 minutes a month. Here are a few volunteer jobs we could really use your help with:

(1) Learn how to spotlight speakers during our 1st and 3rd Sunday Services. Simply hover your cursor over the person you want to spotlight, click on the ‘…’ (ellipsis) menu, and choose Spotlight.

(2) Volunteer as the breakout room host for First or Third Sunday services.

(3) Invite two friends to Subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Or volunteer to coach a regular attendee on how to subscribe to UUCC's YouTube channel.

(4) Invite a friend to attend one of our services online.

(5) Be a Chalice Lighter for a Third Sunday service. After a half hour training, no rehearsals are required.

(6) Find quote memes for our twice-monthly newsletter on monthly Touchstones themes.

(7) Suggest poems, inspirational quotes, YouTube music links, social action notices, and articles of interest for UUCC's Facebook page.

(8) Coordinate the Compassionate Caring Committee requests with posts to our Compassionate Caring Committee Mailing List.

Please contact us at uucoastside@gmail.com to let us know how you can help our Beloved Community grow on the Coast. And thanks to all of you who have or continue to volunteer!
Compassionate Caring Committee:
The UUCC Compassionate Caring Committee volunteers are often able to support our members during life events such as post-operative, illness, or can’t go out. Do you need food delivery or an errand run? Are you feeling loneliness, loss, or grief that a call might help?

Please contacuucoastside@gmail.com if you’d like support or if you want to volunteer.
