Although the holidays are a time for celebration for many people, some are left out. One such group is the over 1,400 incarcerated members of the Church of the Larger Fellowship. The Worthy Now Prison Ministry Network of the Church of the Larger Fellowship sends messages to each incarcerated CLF member. Can you take a few minutes out of your busy holiday schedule to write a holiday message of support? Click here for three ways you can help, by signing up and writing to an incarcerated UU during the holidays.

UUCC First Sunday Service, December 5th, 11am
|
|
The Touchstones Theme for December is Healing. On December 5th, Rev. Summer Albayati will deliver a sermon entitled “Embodied Healing Rituals: Sufi Islam’s Pathway to Peace and Love.” Experts tell us that we are in liminal times and experiencing collective trauma that yearns to be healed. What can we learn from the Sufi Islamic embodiment rituals practiced to bring more healing into our own lives and communities? How can embracing embodied healing help heal and lead us to collective salvation, freedom, peace and love?
Reverend Summer Albayati (she/her) is a UU Muslim of Iraqi descent who has been playing the Arabic drum professionally since the age of 12. In serving congregations, her focus was on transformation by emphasizing that a mission-focused congregation increases vitality, membership, commitment to justice and love. Rev. Summer co-hosts a podcast with her son called “The Bayat Beat,” a commentary on society and culture with an emphasis on social justice. She also has a chapter in the anthology, Centering: Navigating Race, Authenticity and Power in Ministry, published by Skinner House. Rev. Summer is currently working on a book regarding Islam, the Qur’an and Liberation Theology. Rev. Summer serves as UUCC's primary contact in the Pacific Western Region of the Unitarian Universalist Association.
As always, beautiful music will be provided by Tom Devine and the UUCC Choir featuring LindaGrace Frost.
Please join us at 11:00 am Pacific, 2pm Eastern.
Gathering for service and music begin at 10:50 am.

On Sunday, December 12th, Rev. Claudia Jiménez presents a sermon entitled "Hope is a Verb" at UUCLC. The temptation these days is to focus on what’s wrong in our world, and Rev. We’re looking for volunteers:
(1) Social Media Coordinator: to manage our twice-monthly newsletter, and upload content to our website and Facebook page. A four-hour commitment every two weeks.
(2) Participating in an online service is easier than you think. We are in need of Chalice Lighters and Worship Associates for our Third Sunday Gallery View services. The schedule is lighter and we'll be with you every step of the way to make it a pleasant and enriching learning experience.
(3) Fill our newsletter with the diversity that makes UU stand apart from other faiths. Send in poems, inspirational quotes, YouTube music video links, social action notices, and articles of interest to uucoastside@gmail.com.
Thanks to all of you who have or continue to volunteer!
