April 2026

We are no longer streaming our services online.

April 5

"Hosanna, Hallelujah, Hats, and Hunting for Eggs!”

Rev. Jane Page

Our annual celebration of Easter will include the wearing of hats, a Palm Sunday Story, Flower Communion for all ages, a short homily by Rev. Jane exploring Holy Week and an Easter egg hunt for the children. Please bring a flower or piece of greenery. We will have extras, of course.

April 12

"The Passion of the Oppressed"

Clint Tawes

What happens when we see the cross not only as a religious symbol but as a reminder of how societies treat the vulnerable? This sermon explores how the story of the crucifixion—and the hope that follows it—speaks to justice, compassion, and the dignity of every human life.

April 19

"Share the Laughter, Bare the Pain"

Rev. Jane Page

Rev. Jane continues her sermon series based on phrases from Ric Masten's song, “Let It Be a Dance.'" This Sunday we will explore "Share the Laughter, Bare the Pain."

April 26

"Spiritual But Not Religious or Religious But Not Spiritual"

Beth Sutton

An interactive service exploring our spiritual/religious learnings.

This summer UUA will have a hybrid General Assembly and hopes to involve as many people as possible -- especially for the second weekend activities. I have used my professional development funds to pay for full access.

On Sunday, June 21, we will begin our service as usual at 10:30 and will do other activities together then join UUA's Community Sing until their service starts at 11:00 a.m. You can stay for all of it or part of it if you need to leave early. Also, if you JUST want to see the UUA service, you can slip in at 11. We're not going to change the start time of our service because people would not necessarily know -- plus we need our own time for offering, joys, and concerns, and more. I think you will enjoy participating with UUs from all over by coming that Sunday.

I also plan to come to church to watch the WARE lecture at the church Saturday, June 20 at 8 p.m., Episcopal Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde will be the speaker. And it won't bother me a bit if folks show up to watch with me. HOWEVER, if you want to be involved in even more of these great events and workshops (including one that our own Clint Tawes will present), you may want to sign up yourself. I'm including a link that takes you to a newsletter article by Sofia Betancourt with information about the possibilities and includes a link to register.  CLICK HERE

Rev. Jane

UUCG’s Adult Forum is designed to encourage discussion by sharing our stories and wisdom so we may “learn more about being human.” We meet on the first Sunday of the month to reinforce the “warmth of community” that calls us to attend church. Think of us as an adult Sunday School class, and join in!

Topic: What’s on your Mind?

Join us curious and engaged UUs for a general discussion before the service. This is an opportunity to share what’s on your mind and in your heart. You’re invited to share an article, a poem, song lyrics, a book review, or talk about something interesting that you observed.

Continue to send healing love to Jim Finklea, Sharon Ehle, Diane Jackson -- and others you may know need it.

Thank you to our Caring Team Members: June Sherwood, Kent Goering, Dorin Schumacher, Judith Longfield, Vickie Monti, Phyllis Frey, Jane Haubrich and Corinne Bachman. They are taking weeks to be "on call" so look for their contact information in the weekly email. Judith is our point person for hospital visits and Corinne is helping with our resource list.  Please reach out to them as needed, but if you are unsure who to call you can use 912-222-6103. (Vickie graciously agreed to be a general contact number for our Team.)

What can you do to help make this work for our congregation?  If you ever have said, "I wish I knew __________ was sick, in the hospital or in need of support physically, spiritually or mentally", then that is what this Caring Circle is about. Spread the word and keep your hearts open to the needs. If you or someone you know at UUCG are ill or just need some smiles and love, feel very free to let us know. The more we are able to share the more the congregation can build a caring community. We ask everyone to err on the side -- of "yes, a hug and a little support, please". No information will be shared without permission.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM MARCH AND PLANS FOR APRIL

Carolyn Wallace has agreed to be the new Worship Program Coordinator, taking over from Rev. Jane. Thank you Carolyn!

Judith Longfield and the Ministerial Search Committee (MSC) are working on the online Application Packet, which will introduce prospective ministers to UUCG. This will be completed after further input from the congregation self-assessment discussed below. Search Committee efforts will ramp back up after the self-assessment is completed.

Beth Stevenson and the Congregational Listening Team worked hard and efficiently to prepare a survey that was sent on March 18 to all members and friends. This is the first step in a self-assessment process to gather information on the expectations, preferences, and values of the congregation as we move forward with the minister search process. Thank you to everyone who has already replied! If you haven't yet responded, please take the time to do so. We need your input. UUCG SURVEY

A luncheon and discussion session held on Sunday, March 29, was the first in a series of opportunities for face-to-face input and sharing of ideas. The focus was on the types of ministry structures available in Unitarian Universalism and those of most interest to the congregation. Turn-out was excellent and we had a really good exchange of ideas.

During April, there will be more discussion sessions to continue the self-assessment process. These will be a combination of small group meetings and virtual sessions. The information gathered will feed back to the MSC to guide the search process as it enters the next stage.

We appreciate your support and ideas (and patience) as we move forward with this search!

Welcome to new members Jim Finklea, Jane Haubrich and Teresa Laxamana. They all signed the membership book in the past month and will be honored in a joining ceremony on Easter Sunday. We are honored to have them become members of the Unitarian Universalists of Coastal Georgia. Look for their pictures in the new member area in the social hall.

Are you thinking about becoming a UUCG member? Or, do you have questions about membership?  Contact Beth Stevenson (404-824-5562) or Rev. Jane for information about membership.

We are in need of volunteers to be greeters or to help with after service hospitality (coffee, tea and treats). Let Beth Stevenson (404-824-5562) know if you are interested in helping out.

These are both great ways to get to know UUCG and meet members and visitors.

Carolyn Wallace has volunteered to take on the job of Worship Coordinator at UUCG, starting in August, 2026. The Worship Coordinator is responsible for generating the schedule of programs for the worship services and if necessary, scheduling additional people to act as Service Leaders. Carolyn could use volunteers to help with three things at this time.

1. With Reverend Jane's retirement, we will need to recruit several people who are able to lead the worship service components that a guest speaker for the sermon time would not do. Carolyn will provide training for anyone who might be interested.

2. It is highly likely that the search for a new minister will continue into late fall or even next year. If you have an interest, a talent or an idea for a worship service that features either yourself or someone you know well, please pass it on to me, so that I might help work it into the schedule.

3. There are a few UU services, that our members can provide following UUA suggestions and practices, such as the Water Ceremony, and Guest At Our Table. If you would like to work on a team to produce one of these services, please also reach out.

To help out with any of these activities or if you have questions, contact Carolyn at carolynswallace@yahoo.com, or (478) 279-2769.

APRIL 19 BOOK

Separation of Church and Hate: A Sane Person's Guide to Taking Back the Bible from Fundamentalists, Fascists, and Flock-Fleecing Frauds

by John Fugelsang

“In the spirit of George Carlin and Christopher Hitchens, the son of a former Catholic nun and a Franciscan brother delivers a deeply irreverent and biblically correct takedown of far-right Christian hatred—a book for believers, atheists, agnostics, and anyone who’ll ever have to deal with a Christian nationalist.” (Amazon)

MAY 17 BOOK

1929: Inside the Greatest Crash in Wall Street History--and How It Shattered a Nation

by Andrew Ross Sorkin

“The ordinary human being does not live long enough to draw any substantial benefit from his own experience. And no one, it seems, can benefit by the experiences of others. Being both a father and teacher, I know we can teach our children nothing…Each must learn its lesson anew.” —Albert Einstein, October 26, 1929

We have many wonderful people who volunteer their talents to UUCG. There are numerous people who help make our surroundings comfortable (and working properly), provide programs of interest and refreshments that we enjoy.

In our sanctuary, we have a hearing loop to enhance listening.

It's available to people with hearing instruments equipped with a T-coil setting

and to persons with their own hearing loop receiver devices.

We are located at 1710 Gloucester Street - Brunswick, Georgia
