"Singing for Our Lives"
Beth Stevenson
Join us on June 1 for an intergenerational music service that enriches our souls as we sing together songs of protest, justice and "good trouble". We are planning a service to fill our hearts with the possibilities of how music can be an element in helping us cope with injustice and concerns for our democracy. Absolutely no music skills and talent required -- as a minister once said years ago, "if you can't sing .... then, sing loud". We will have several of our congregational musicians accompanying us as we join our voices together to rock the house, fill our hearts with hope and gather strength for the efforts ahead of us.

"Something to Talk About"
Clint Tawes
In a world where compassion is called radical and justice is labeled controversial, we’re going to be talked about no matter what—so why not make it count? This sermon invites us to love boldly, live our values out loud, or give the world something worth talking about.

"When you assume..."
Randy Blasch
So often we make decisions based on assumption and stereotypes. Can we recognize that within ourselves and what can we do about it?

"Slave Ships"
John Cowlishaw
We begin with an overview of the transatlantic slave trade, from its origin in the Algarve of Portugal in 1444 to the last American slave ship, the Clotilde, in 1860, with emphasis on the ships that carried them. The story of one of Clotilde’s captives, Cudjo Lewis, will be told from his capture by a female army in Benin, Africa, to his confinement in the King of Dahomey’s barracoon thru the Middle Passage, to his arrival in Mobile, Alabama. Over 12 million Africans were slave-shipped to the Americas. But not all ships made it, and the last ten years have featured the discovery and exploration of those slave ships that were wrecked.
