"The Depth of the Well"

Clint Tawes

It’s easy to judge what we don’t understand. But beneath every belief—even the ones we find most troubling—there’s a story, a struggle, a reason. In this sermon, we’ll reflect on the spiritual practice of trying to see through someone else’s eyes—not to excuse, but to understand. And while this may not sound like a typical Mother’s Day sermon, trust me—there’s a meaningful Mother’s Day connection woven into the message. What happens when we resist the urge to dismiss and instead choose to draw a little deeper?

"Ask Mama Jane"

Rev. Jane Page

Once each year, Rev. Jane does not prepare for her sermon. Instead, she pulls your questions out of the Question Box and attempts to respond. These questions can be about theology, Unitarian Universalism, history, current events, and more.

Potluck Brunch

Join us for our Memorial Day Weekend Potluck Brunch. Bring your favorite dish to share.

It's hard to believe that two years have passed and it's almost time for me to go. I cannot deny that I've fallen in love with Brunswick and this congregation. It's been so wonderful watching the growth we've all done together. Our new RE program, working side by side with you at Manna House (thank you Kim!!!). The projects with Diane Jackson at the park, my time at The Well and too many others to mention. We've had some missteps along the way, and still have some work to do, but I hope you realize how amazing you are as a congregation.

I want to especially thank Rev. Dr. Jane Page. I could not have asked for a better mentor. Her kindness and wisdom have served me well and I will be taking that with me as I go on the next phase of my journey. Meadville may have taught me the facts for my head, but Jane, you taught me what it is to be a minister.

I will be hanging around Brunswick through July before I head back to Atlanta where I will have a one-year residency at Emory Hospitals (don't know which one yet) as a chaplain. This will allow me to continue my education and work on the things that the MFC has asked me to do. I will miss you all so much and I can't imagine a day going by where I won't be thinking of you.

Over the next year, contact, by design, will be scarce, but I hope to be back to visit as soon as the rules let me. I am looking forward to being with you over the summer, working with the kids and being in the pulpit a couple of times too!

Thank you all for everything. I love you all!

Randy

Membership is looking for some friendly, new greeters! Would you like to greet and welcome new visitors? It is a fairly easy way to serve your congregation and you can serve as much as you wish. Contact Carolyn Wallace at carolynswallace@yahoo.com and I will pass on the information to our Greeter Coordinator, Mason Parker.

If you wish to become a member of UUCG...Contact Beth Stevenson or Rev. Jane

Beth Stevenson is now our Membership Team Leader. She is looking forward to working with a Co-Chair on some exciting events. If you are interested in helping in any way with this team, please contact Beth at echstevenson@gmail.com OR 404-824-5562

Do you have any gently used board games, Lego bricks or puzzles that you would like to donate? Perhaps something your grandchildren have outgrown? If so, please bring it to any of the services in May, and we will use it in our growing toy library. For questions, contact Carolyn Wallace at carolynswallace@yahoo.com.

The Children's Program Committee will have a work and training session on June 1, immediately following the service. This is for the program teachers and anyone else who is interested. We will organize materials for the summer sessions. Pizza will be provided. For questions, contact Carolyn Wallace at carolynswallace@yahoo.com

Summer is a perfect time to connect with our UUCG children. Sundays during services we will need volunteers to be with the children where we spend time talking informally, playing on the playground or inside for art activities. We will be more informal… but it a great chance to connect. We also have lots of ideas if you want to do something more structured!

Let Beth Stevenson know if you are interested since we need to do simple background checks for safety. echstevenson@gmail.com or 404-824-5562

UUCG's Manna House team served lunch to about 300 people on April 23rd! Our team of ten UUCG members and friends assembled sack lunches with hot dogs for MH guests.

Our next workday will be Wednesday, May 28th (4th Wednesday of each month), 9am-1pm. I'll email more info to everyone in mid-May.

Sunday, May 4, 2025 9:00 – 10:10 AM UUCG Bill Phillips Forum Room

Discussion leader: Ruth Trudeau

Topic: Open Discussion

Come join the Adult Forum and participate in an “open discussion.” What’s going on with you? Let’s tackle some general topics that tickle our fancy …. What are topics that you hear people talking about?

Let’s use this time and our discussion to plan for upcoming Forum topics and locate volunteers to lead Adult Forums in future sessions.

UUCG's Adult Forum is designed to encourage discussion by sharing our stories and wisdom so we may “learn more about being human.”

We meet to reinforce the “warmth or community” that calls us to attend church.

Meetings are on the FIRST SUNDAY of the month from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.

If you have questions about the group, please email Rev. Jane at revjanepage@gmail.com.

Games and Giving Night - Saturday, May 10 from 4-9PM

Join us and bring friends to the UUCG Games and Giving Night on May 10. Bring food or drink to share and come any time after 4:00. (We did it early so that children supervised by their parents can come.) This is a free event, but we are asking everyone to bring light foods and drinks that could make a meal (bread, cheese, fruit, finger foods, drinks). We should have plenty of games, but you can also bring something you want to play.

And! We are planning to have a basket out for donations to a local non-profit.

On May 10, we will have a basket out for The Well.

This is open to the community so feel free to invite others who might enjoy playing games or supporting The Well.

For questions talk to Beth Stevenson or Kirsten Montague. RSVP to Beth (404-824-5562 or echstevenson@gmail.com).
