"How Grief Transforms"

Rev. Dr. Victoria Weinstein, Worship Leader

A dear friend whose young adult son died recently has granted me permission to share some of our conversations about the terrible transformative fire that is grief. How is she getting through it? She is, and people do, and there is wisdom to be shared.

Worship with us in the Sanctuary and on Facebook Live!

Given the seasonal spike in COVID cases and the spread of other infectious diseases like flu and RSV, we encourage the wearing of masks when we are together. Masks are an easy and simple way to minimize worry over sharing germs as we enjoy each other’s company.

For those of you who would like to maintain social distance in the sanctuary (which has several air filters running), the front side of the sanctuary by the wooden Lydia Breed sculpture is reserved for you. (See diagram here)

A Message from Rev. Vicki

In the Spirit

“Ch-ch-ch-changes, turn and face the strange,” sang David Bowie. His song was my senior prom theme and it is the theme of the next several weeks’ worship services. Change is inevitable.

Sometimes we choose to change and embrace the transformation process, while many times change comes about due to circumstances we never would have chosen. One of the most

pressing spiritual questions I have when considering this reality is why we so often avoid considering, let alone planning for, the changes that are inevitable with aging and end-of-life. We prepare high school students for college or life after school in very intentional ways, why not the much later chapters of our lives?

Looking forward to seeing you soon. We have many exciting and interesting programs coming up!

In faith, hope and love,

Rev. Vicki

Faith Development

This Sunday, our Neighboring Faith class for 6th grade and up will visit the Swampscott Church of Spiritualism. This has been a favorite for the classes in the past. Since their service starts later, our group will meet at UUCGL at the usual start time of 10am and travel over together. Parent pickup will then be at the Swampscott Church of Spiritualism at 12:30pm. Registration is required to participate in the trip. Our younger cohort will gather at 10am in the Spirit Play classroom for a Spirit Play story and activities together.

And if you haven’t registered yet, please let us know you’ll be coming to Game Night this Friday night! At last count, we have 27 attending. Registration is not required but we’ll order pizza based on the number registered as of Friday morning. Feel free to invite friends and family. See you soon!
