Along with many of you, I have been heartened by the ways our local communities are responding to the incredible needs of these times — addressing food insecurity, supporting neighbors affected by ICE presence, standing up for rights, and offering so many acts of mutual aid and care. We will be celebrating some of these stories during our Thanksgiving service this Sunday.
If you have stories—your own, or ones you’ve witnessed or heard—of people responding with kindness and generosity to the concrete needs of neighbors, please email me in the next few days, as I will be including examples from the congregation in the service. Mutual aid has long been a sacred expression of covenant and justice within Unitarian Universalism, and it is especially important right now.
In that same spirit of caring for one another and responding thoughtfully to the needs of the moment, I also want to highlight a small adjustment we are making to our Sunday morning door procedures this week. The side door will remain locked, and once church begins, the front door will be locked and monitored. If you arrive after the service has started, please ring the bell and someone will come to let you in as soon as they are able. We encourage everyone to arrive on time when possible, while recognizing that many have responsibilities or circumstances that sometimes make late arrival unavoidable.
After worship, please join us in the Skylight Room for a community conversation with the Board about the future of our security protocols and how we can best balance both safety and hospitality.
See you in church,
Rev. Chris
