A Message from Rev. Vicki

In the Spirit

If I am presiding at a sad occasion or reading something very emotional in a service, I often prepare by going over the section multiple times to get all my crying done before I am in the sanctuary. I was not anticipating the commission of Rev. Chris as Sabbatical Minister to be so emotional! Thanks to Chris and to all of you for your supportive presence while I got myself together. I know I leave you in good hands and that you will take good care of each other. I will see you before you know it in February of 2026 for a month of ministry together before taking the second section of my sabbatical in the spring. On Sunday I asked,

“Will you support Rev. Chris Scheller in this period of sabbatical, to remember that he is assuming additional duties, to be his close partners in congregational care, spiritual life and learning, communicating with him often, and generously volunteering your time and good will to keep our church strong in all seasons? If so, please respond “we will.”

You responded that you would, and with that and our covenant and the Spirit of Love to guide and guard you, I bid you adieu with love and gratitude.

In faith, hope and love,

Rev. Vicki

A Message from Rev. Chris

This Sunday is the day we gather for our annual All Souls worship service. We join with so many religious traditions in honoring this season, when the veil between the worlds grows thin. In Celtic history, this time was called Samhain, marked by gatherings and feasts, when the ancient burial mounds were opened and seen as portals to the otherworld. Sunday we will honor the presence of our ancestors with us, no matter when our loved ones have died. It is a time to remember and a time to commune.

This month also marks the end of the harvest season, but we turn our attention to food insecurity, with the government planning to withhold SNAP benefits during the shutdown and many federal workers going without pay. Every act of generosity matters right now. The Salem Pantry is our November 50/50 recipient, and on November 30 we will join in a meal prep project in lieu of worship for our fifth Sunday service project, partnering with SPUR. We will also host a food drive, with details to come soon, and there are a few immediate volunteer and donation opportunities listed below.

Abundant Blessings,

Rev. Chris

Helping the Larger Community

Food Donations

In just a few days, millions of families may lose their SNAP benefits. This means people in our larger community could be going hungry. If everyone chipped in just a little bit, we could make a difference. Bring any non-perishable food you can donate to church and place it in the bin in our foyer for the St. Stephen's Food Pantry in Lynn. Please don’t think your “little bit” isn’t important — it counts!

Volunteering for My Brother's Table

Everyone is invited to join in on Thursday, November 6th from 1-3pm in the Parish Hall to help assemble lunches/dinners for My Brother's Table in Lynn. Many hands make light work! Thanks to Doreen Hodgkin for organizing.

If you'd like to volunteer more of your time, My Brother's Table has an ongoing sign-up sheet HERE with many different shift options to choose from.

Tai Chi & Qigong

Have you been curious about our Tai Chi and Qigong classes? The practice of either form offers numerous health benefits like promoting relaxation, improving balance and flexibility, relieving stress and fatigue, and strengthening body and mind.

Try a class for free! Classes start back up next Tuesday, November 4th, and the Beginner Tai Chi and Qigong groups are welcoming newcomers as well as those who have participated in the past and want to join again. Both classes are open for registration now — sign up HERE!

This monthly gathering, facilitated by Penny Stratton, is open to those who are interested in their family history and in tracing their ancestry.

Bring photos and anecdotes of one ancestor to show and discuss during part of the meeting; we'll spend the rest of the time discussing where we are in our searches (or where we’d like to begin) and any problems we have encountered. Join us!

This event is sponsored by Seaglass Village and hosted by UUCGL.

Solstice Sound Healing

Sunday, December 21 | 2-4pm | Sanctuary

Celebrate the winter solstice and return of light with Sound Therapist Joe Hayes as he uses vibration to root us in the Earth on this shortest day of the year. Take a break from the holiday bustle to step into a sacred space of resonance, release, and renewal! MORE INFO

This event is pre-pay only. To help us finalize arrangements, all payments must be received by December 15. We are unable to accept payments at the door. (Payment options include online, or by cash/check delivered to our office by 12/15. Either way, be sure to register below to save your spot!)

Sound Healing is a form of non-invasive alternative healing similar to yoga and acupuncture. Endorsed by such disparate figures as the Buddha, Einstein, and Medical Oncologist Mitchell Gaynor M.D., Sound Healing is a deeply effective way to release stress from the body/mind, thus restoring the immune system.
