A Message from Rev. Chris

Last Sunday during our All Souls service, we remembered our dearly departed loved ones—whose love continues to bless us. This is also a time to reflect on the impermanence of our own lives. While that reflection can be challenging, one lesson Rev. Vicki and I have learned is how helpful it can be to plan ahead, making things a little easier for those who will one day remember us in turn.

To that end, Rev. Vicki has created an End of Life and Memorial Service Planning Form. We encourage everyone to complete this form, and we’ll be reminding you about it throughout the month. It’s a simple but deeply caring act that helps your loved ones and your ministers know your wishes.

This Sunday, we welcome our first guest minister of the year, Rev. Dr. Gary Strichartz. I will be at church leading the children and youth program, which will begin separately in the Skylight Room.

There is a lot happening in the world and in the life of our church. Please take a moment to read through all that’s going on. You’ll find a specific list of items that St. Stephen’s Food Pantry has asked us to prioritize in our food drive, as well as a message from our Pastoral Caregivers Ministry Team below. Let us continue to offer and receive the care that is so vital to being in community together.

Abundant Blessings,

Rev. Chris

From the Pastoral Caregivers Ministry Team

Dear Community,

We are aware that there are those in the congregation who may be worried about experiencing food insecurity as the SNAP benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) are withheld or at least held up by the government. We do not want anyone to go hungry. We do not want anyone to feel isolated in dealing with this. Food is a human right.

The church can help. Please let us know, and we will connect you with resources. You can talk to Rev. Chris or any one of us.

Helping the Larger Community

Food Donations: Prioritized Items Needed

We are collecting for St. Stephen's Food Pantry in Lynn. All non-perishable donations are welcome, but the Food Pantry has asked that we please focus donations on these key items:

  • tuna
  • peanut butter
  • cereal (regular-sized boxes)

We will be collecting non-perishable food on an ongoing basis, but we are looking to collect as much of these requested items as possible between now and Sunday, Nov 23. Donations can be placed in the large bin labeled for St. Stephen’s in the foyer. If everyone chipped in just a little bit, we could make a difference!

The UUCGL Mitten Tree

We will adorn our Mitten Tree on December 7th, but you can start shopping now to join in this special UUCGL tradition! Each year on a Sunday in December, we bring in gifts of new mittens, gloves, hats, or scarves to place on our Christmas Tree in the Sanctuary. These items will go to the children and adults served by Lynn Community Health Center Pediatrics Services who are in need of some warmth this winter. These gifts of warmth are greatly appreciated!

Email Scams Reminder

Email scams claiming to be from the church office or a member of the staff or board have been circulating again. Please know that nobody from UUCGL will ever contact you for passwords, directory files, money, gift cards, or "emergency help" of any kind.

Thank you for reporting these to us, and whenever possible, flag and report them as SPAM from your email account.

Solstice Sound Healing

Sunday, December 21 | 2-4pm | Sanctuary

Celebrate the winter solstice and return of light with Sound Therapist Joe Hayes as he uses vibration to root us in the Earth on this shortest day of the year. Take a break from the holiday bustle to step into a sacred space of resonance, release, and renewal! MORE INFO

This event is pre-pay only. To help us finalize arrangements, all payments must be received by December 15. We are unable to accept payments at the door. (Payment options include online, or by cash/check delivered to our office by 12/15. Either way, be sure to register below to save your spot!)

Sound Healing is a form of non-invasive alternative healing similar to yoga and acupuncture. Endorsed by such disparate figures as the Buddha, Einstein, and Medical Oncologist Mitchell Gaynor M.D., Sound Healing is a deeply effective way to release stress from the body/mind, thus restoring the immune system.
