Minister's Musings...

Dear Ones,

The weather these past few days had me thinking, "Oh my goodness, this is why I love living in Michigan!" I've seen so many people out and about and noticed too many not wearing masks or practicing safe distancing. Please stay safe!

Some of you have sent lovely photos of flowers and a few include yourself in the photo. The flower parade is coming together, and there is still time to get your photos into virtual Sunday's Flower Communion! If you don't have a camera with a phone and need help with your photo, let me know! I'll try to arrange to get someone who lives nearby who will wear a mask (or me) to swing by and snap your picture.

The Annual Meeting follows the service, so plan to stay around for the meeting. There won't be long boring speeches, I promise. As this church year comes to a close, we have much to celebrate and even more to look forward to as we move into our second interim year. A special treat on July 5th, the Reverend Dr. Fred Wooden will be your guest speaker, and on July 12, UUCGT will tune in to a Michigan-wide collective worship service. Stay tuned for more information about upcoming services. After a summer break, I'll be back in the pulpit on August 16th.

See you in church!

Much love,
Cathy

9:45 AM Sunday Morning RE on Zoom

Flower Communion
The Flower Communion Ceremony is held each year to celebrate beauty, human and earth diversity, and community. Each youth is asked to bring a flower to share with us on Zoom. It can be a real flower from your garden, yard or a beautiful picture from a magazine if you don't have any blooming flowers in your yard. We will also create a "flower craft" to keep or
give away to someone you love.

Note:  Zoom meeting link for Sunday Morning RE will be sent to families in a separate email. If you have a child who would like to attend the RE gathering and you did not receive the link, please contact Betsy Hammberberg at  dre@uucgt.org

A Few Notes

Renée Russell ~  UUCGT Director of Music

As we celebrate the beautiful Flower Communion Ceremony this Sunday it is a perfect time to reflect on appreciating diversity. Through music we can express ourselves and our cultures in so many wonderful forms. It can be easy to get into a certain listening pattern.

This week, I've explored listening to music not in my regular rotation and outside my "norm" of listening to see what brings those that have a different lived experience from me solace and inspiration. This wonderful episode of the podcast Codeswitch was a great learning and listening experience.

To share a little song that moves me,  here is one of my favorite pieces inspired by the beauty of nature which I was lucky enough to learn in my early days.

How do you find and appreciate diversity in nature and in music?
