Minister's Musings...
The Rev. Susan Frederick Gray outlined two themes that emerged during her first year as our new UUA president.
She wrote:
"
This is no time for a casual faith and this is no time to go it alone."
She was responding to the myriad of natural disasters due to climate change that our nation was facing, but her words are relevant today as our nation faces the growing threat of white supremacist
extremism.
This Sunday's sermon "Our Chosen Faith" explores the roots of our faith tradition to inspire and guide us as together we navigate these challenges with courage, commitment, and a vision of a more compassionate nation, and a better world for all.
In faith,
Rev. Cathy

Sunday Service
Sunday, August 11 - Rev. Cathy Harrington
Amanda Mangiardi, coordinator
10:30 AM:
"Our Chosen Faith"
Unitarian Universalism has been called a heretical faith, a label many of us accept with pride and humor. This sermon will offer a balance of UU history, humor, and hope.

Children & Youth
Religious Education
Nursery care for infants through age 4 is available
During our Summer RE Program for PreK-5th grade and Youth (5th-8th grade), c
hildren are asked to come directly to the RE classroom when they arrive. We
will be outside as much as possible!
We had a wonderful time in RE last week. We all practiced being in the present moment while silently sending wishes and blessings to each other and out into the world. The children learned about prayer flags and then made their own to represent the wishes and blessings they were sending out to the world. In the coming weeks we look forward to continuing our practice of being mindful and present in all that we do.

- Indian Village String Quartet special mini-concert at UUCGT: Sunday, August 18, 10:00am before the service - Come early to enjoy some fabulous music!
One of the members, Ray Stone, joined us for a service at UUCGT last summer while attending the Adult Chamber Music Camp at Interlochen. He offered to return with his quartet and play for us this summer. And he didn't forget his offer!!
His group is called the Indian Village String Quartet (named after the historical Indian Village neighborhood in Detroit), though they hail from Ruthven, Ontario, where they play quarterly at the Olinda UU Church.
Their program will be Mozart Divertimento in B flat, KV 138 (125c), 3 movements, and Topped Hen/Peat Dance (Nordic folk music arranged for string quartet by the Danish Quartet).
Be sure to come early on August 18 for this special performance!

End Note...from Daily Compass
Each night, we all sleep under the stars -
most of us just don't see them
because of the roof
that shelters us.
But really, all of us go about all of our daily activities
under the stars as well.
The stars don't just go away
because the light
prevents us from seeing them.
There are always stars.....
whether we notice them or not.
There are always wonders surrounding us...
