Minister's Musings...

Dear Ones,

I'm sorry that I won't be with you on Sunday for the annual Thanksgiving service, but I wanted to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving.

I'm giving thanks this year for the privilege and the joy of serving as your interim minister. I'm flying to South Carolina to spend Thanksgiving week with my mother and my sons. For over fifteen years, my mother has been a member of the congregations that I have served, and I miss her terribly. She is almost 97-years old now and lives in Anderson, SC near my son who dotes on her.

Santa Claus was a member of the Chattanooga UU Church, and we arranged for her to have her very first picture with Santa. She was 93.  UUCGT, meet my sweet mom, Julianne Harrington.

In faith and love,
Cathy

Memorial  Jazz  Concert & Reception

Celebrating the Life of Treva Jaffe
Sunday, December 1 at 3:00pm

A Memorial  Jazz  Concert in honor of Kim Gribi's mother,  TREVA JAFFE, who passed away on November 8, will be held at UUCGT on Sunday, December 1, 2019, at 3:00 p.m.  Treva performed many times at UUCGT and was a regular entertainer at the Senior Center for the past several years.

"Music in My Mother's House" will be performed by Gary Deavel and Shelley Burnes. The Jeff Haas Trio, including Laurie Sears on sax and flute and Jack Dryden on bass, as well as pianists Tom Kaufmann and David Chown will all perform.

A wine and cheese reception will follow the concert.

Treva's wish was to have a "Jazz Concert for All" and this event is open to the public. So come and enjoy a tribute to a local jazz matriarch.  This will truly be a celebration of her life!

The American Journal of Public Health has just published a new study on whether large-capacity magazine bans are effective in reducing high-fatality mass shootings. The key finding is that LCM bans appear to save lives.

End Note...
"I am grateful for what I am and have.
My thanksgiving is perpetual.
It is surprising how contented one can be
with nothing definite -
only a sense of existence....
My breath is sweet to me.
O how I laugh when I think of my vague indefinite riches.
No run on my bank can drain it,
for my wealth is not possession but enjoyment."

~ Henry David Thoreau
