Reflection....

Bridging worlds...

May your Samhain be blessed...

Let magic spring from unexpected places
and your heart branch in mystery,
as brazen and bare as the hawthorn on hallowed hills....

Samhain Lore and Rituals
by Selena Fox

Samhain, (pronounced saah-win  or  saa-ween ), popularly known as Halloween, occurs in late October and early November.  For most Wiccan practitioners, this is the New Year, and a time for letting go of the old and looking ahead to the new.  It marks the end of the harvest season.  Since ancient times, Pagans have paid their respects to departed loved ones, ancestors, and guides in the Spirit World at Samhain.   Read more here....

Sunday Service
Sunday, October 28
10:30 AM:   "Samhain - Honoring Our Ancestors "
All Congregation Service -  Kat Norman , Coordinator

"We are our grandmothers' prayers, and we are our grandfathers' dreamings.   We are the breath of our ancestors..."  Ysaye M. Barnwell

This is our annual service when we remember our ancestors of the blood, of the heart, and of the spirit honoring the lives of those who have touched us.  Members of all ages are invited to bring a photo or memento of those who have gone before us to help co-create our setting.

Please note:  Nursery care is available for infants - age 4; all other children and youth, please remain in the service with their family.

Children & Youth Programs

Children and families are an important element within UUCGT.  Currently, we are in the process of restructuring our Children & Youth Programs for Sunday mornings.  Our intention and goals are to build  an excellent future with kids and youth in mind with  new and exciting programs, as well as having a new teacher/coordinator in place by the first of the year.

In the interim, child care is provided only for infants through age 4 in our Nursery.   All other children and youth are invited to remain in the service with their families.

Your input is welcome and encouraged!

Please contact Jolynn Paige, Child and Youth Program Task Force Coordinator at  [email protected]  with your thoughts or suggestions.

Rabbi Chava Status Update

Rabbi Chava is continuing to recover from her injuries and the concussion she sustained in an August fall at her home in Suttons Bay.  She has recently seen her neurologist and is awaiting the results of testing to determine the severity of her concussion.  Meanwhile, her neurologist has restricted her from any kind of work and from driving.  Rabbi Chava and her neurologist have also agreed that she will limit her "screen time" to aid in her recovery.

I have regular visits with Rabbi Chava, as your representative, and she wants you to know that she wishes she could be back as our Spiritual Leader, but she is physically unable to do so at this time.  You should understand that neither Rabbi Chava's doctors, Rabbi Chava nor we can accurately predict when she will be physically able to return.

In November, if it appears that Rabbi Chava will be unable to return in January, we will be working with the UUA and Rabbi Chava to identify a substitute minister to serve our congregation until Rabbi Chava is able to return.

Voting is a Social Justice Responsibility
vote

Michigan had two proposals set for the ballot,
but the State Legislature made them into laws before the public could vote.
Now, we must be ready to take action to continue benefits and
protect these laws.
