All Souls Day ~ A Service of Remembrance

As our all too brief summer fades into fall, and trees have begun shedding their brightly colored leaves, we begin to brace for winter.

This Sunday, we will remember those who are no longer with us with a ritual of remembrance and beautiful music.

Gary Deavel and Kim Gribi will perform three pieces,
Renée Russell  will sing the beautiful song by Eva Cassidy,
"I Know You By Heart", and our UUCGT Vocal Ensemble
will also be with us, singing "Breaths".

You are invited to bring a photo of a loved one who has graced your life to place on our special altar so that we can remember them with gratitude and love.

In faith, Cathy

We had a wonderful Fall Festival celebration! Last Sunday, approximately 25 kids enjoyed face painting, wand creation, apple bobbing with strings, rock sifting, a leaf labyrinth, and a scavenger hunt in the woods (which ended with meeting a witch!). Big thanks go to Jolynn Paige, Nan Worthington, Reverend Cathy, Dan Tholen, Dianne and Eric Hallman and Gary Nelson for their help in preparing and running the event!

In RE last Sunday we learned about Samhain and Dia de los Muertos and made pumpkin candles and popcorn balls. On Sunday, November 3, we will learn about the way the Bible answers the question - "Where do we come from?" by interacting with the Judeo-Christian creation story. We will acknowledge that this is one of many creation stories and theories, and that all are equally valid.
Additionally, an OWL Subcommittee will be forming to discuss the future of lifespan sexuality education at our congregation. If you are interested in exploring how OWL can meet the needs of our children, youth, and adults, please consider joining us.

A new rule will enable the   administration to collect DNA from nearly any asylum seeker who is detained when crossing through official entry points.

The argument is that this will help in fighting crime, but the reality is that the crime rate for both legal and undocumented immigrants is much lower than it is for U.S. citizens.  S ubmit a comment  on the federal register and also ask Members of Congress to do something about this flagrant invasion of privacy and violation of human rights by forcefully taking DNA samples from immigrants.
