Minister's Musings...

It was a delight to see all of you at last Sunday's Ingathering and Water Communion service and to meet some of you who have just returned from summer vacation. I look forward to sharing some meaningful and joyful times together at UUCGT. There is a lot of important work to do in the next two years as you prepare to call a new settled minister, but it has been my experience that there is joy, growth, and possibility in that work. There is room for fun, too!

In this week's sermon, I will share a bit about my life's journey and my path to ministry. It's a lot of life so I'll abbreviate a bit, but mostly it's how I learned to face my fears and discover my purpose and direction in life.

On another note, I have been using technology in worship for the past five years and have found that it enriches the service in a variety of ways. I have also found that choosing images and creating slides as I'm preparing for Sunday's service has deepened my creative process. As was the case last Sunday, I will be introducing this into the service as an experiment and I invite you to share your thoughts. You can fill out a feedback form, email me, or speak to me after the service.

In faith and love,

Cathy

Sunday Service
10:30 AM - S unday, September 15 - Rev. Cathy Harrington
Pam Hendrick, coordinator
"Something to Believe In"

This is an introductory sermon to further introduce you to Rev. Cathy - who she is and what led her to ministry, and ultimately to UUCGT and to you.

Children & Youth
Religious Education
Nursery care for infants through age 4 is available

Our Fall RE Program for PreK-5th grade and Youth (5th-8th grade) has begun! C hildren are asked to stay in the sanctuary with their family until after A Time for All Ages and Children's Benediction.

Our World Religions unit is off to a great start!

The RE room is filled with pictures representing different aspects of a variety of religions, and the pictures have already sparked many questions and discussions. In our initial session the students looked at pictures of sacred spaces and discussed what they saw. They then drew, built, or made a collage of a space that would be sacred to them.

Next week we will explore the Hindu concept of "One God, Many Names".

BAKE SALE:  We are looking for folks to do some baking and we will sell those goods during the event!

CRAFT SALE:  We are looking for people to rent a table ($25/date) to sell your art/craft goods, your book if you are an author, or anything else you want to rent a table to sell. Table rent goes to the UUCGT, any proceeds from what you sell from your table is yours. You can sign up for one date or both, your choice.

Get a Vendor form from the office or Chris Lautz to reserve your space. You do not have to be a member of the Congregation to rent a table.
We will be needing volunteers on both event days to help sell baked goods and books, and to set up tables. Thanks!

Wednesday Night Speaker Series
Katie Grzesiak, Invasive Species Network Coordinator
Wednesday, September 25 - 7:00 pm

Following our Wednesday Night Pizza Supper (vegan alternative available), Katie will talk about herbicides and their use, including the use of organic herbicides. Katie will also join us for dinner, so lots of time to chat and ask questions:  How deep do I dig?  Which herbicide will work? Can I burn it?  What about human health and the environment?  Where can I turn for help?

Join us for an evening about invasive species control methods - We'll explore what works, what doesn't, how ISN chooses between the many options, and how you can make invasive species control decisions for your projects.

A Grateful Thank You to UUCGT

My name is Marcia Heller, I am the Development Director for the Women's Resource Center. I walked into the lobby the other day and saw the incredible gift of feminine hygiene products you delivered. I know the UU congregation recently sent a monetary contribution as well. I just wanted to send my personal thank you for these kind gifts. I hope you will share my gratitude with others in the Fellowship as well.

Our next quarterly distribution is in November.
We always welcome your suggestions and ideas.

End Note...

"At the end of the day,
it's not about what you have or
even what you've accomplished.
It's about what you've done with those accomplishments.
It's about who you've lifted up,
who you've made better.
It's about what you've given back."
- Denzel Washington
