Reflection:  Blessing the Cherry Festival

Beloved friends, as you know I am just back from my first General Assembly.  There is a lot to assimilate from the experience of ministry days, workshops, worship, business meetings and informal interactions.  I look forward to sharing some insights and reflections with you this Sunday at 10:30 AM.

I am also proud and plea sed to let you know that I have been asked to "bless the Cherry Festival" this year, on Saturday, July 2 at 10 AM on the main stage at the Open Space.

These two events are connected, because they both call us to be our best selves in situations of a lot of stimulation and (perhaps a bit of) stress.  My call for the Cherry Festival is the same call I bring to our beloved community as we start our new year together.  Let's see if we can co-create that best social milieu to which we all aspire:  one of patience, kindness and mutual care, a community of virtue.

You will read in my Beacon reflection this month some ideas I'd like to offer up over the two to three years for us to co- and re-create a culture of virtue that extends beyond our walls into the community.

In the meantime, please come this Sunday:  you will be inspired and deeply challenged by some of what was offered at the General Assembly, and as you move through Cherry Festival week, I bless you to find patience and love for the guests in our home region.

In blessing -
Rabbi Chava

Sunday Service
Sunday, July 3
10:30 a.m. Service:  "A Report from the UUA General Assembly - Dependent, Interdependent, Independent"
General Assembly 2016 invited us to explore how to be in authentic and fruitful interfaith partnerships, both within and beyond the congregation.  Leaders and communities of many faiths assembled to worship together and learn from one another.  Rabbi Chava will offer insights and stories from her first GA experience, and we will move toward a new interdependent vision of faith that responds to the needs of our own time and points us toward the future.

This Sunday for Children and Youth
10:30 a.m.

SPECIALTY CLASS SUMMER FORMAT

Children (preK-5th grade) and Youth (6th-12th grade, 12-18yrs) are invited to join their families in the service through the Story Wisdom.  Following Story Wisdom, Children (preK-5th grade) will follow their teachers to the large classroom space.  Youth (6th-12th grade, 12-18yrs) will REMAIN IN THE SERVICE.  Following the service, parents of Children (preK-5th grade) should make their way to the classroom/program wing of the building to sign their child(ren) out of programming.

This Month for Children...   In July we continue our annual Specialty Class Summer!  Throughout the summer the children will take part in a delightful array of activities.  This month features an Independence Day celebration (complete with ice cream sundaes), Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses, Super Hero Sunday, Movie Magic Sunday and more!

This Month for Youth...  This month, and for the remainder of the summer, our youth will join the adults in the sanctuary for the duration of the service. Please contact Sarah in advance to make arrangements if this is problematic for your family.  This provides youth with the much needed opportunity to learn to be in community with the adults of the congregation, and to learn more about UU Sunday services.
