Connecting with Each Other, Connecting with the Earth

Douglas Cooper and Stefani Danes

Nature teaches us that everything is interconnected. Creating Rachel Carson EcoVillage, we are seeking to understand and strengthen our connections with nature and with each other. Inspired by the life and work of Western Pennsylvania’s Rachel Carson, our intentional neighborhood is striving to realize her vision for a community “where all life seemed to live in harmony with its surrounding”. This talk focuses on one of our biggest questions, “What does it mean to live in harmony with nature?"

During the duration of our OWL program, all children should report directly to their respective classrooms.

The Share the Plate recipient for February is Crisis Center North,

Rev. Lee Anne's Installation - Save the date and help wanted

We are excited to announce that Rev. Lee Anne's Installation ceremony at UUCNH will be held on June 1st. We are looking for a team of folks to help put together the service as well as a nice luncheon. This will also coincide with our congregational meeting so it will be busy day all around. Please contact board@uucnh.org if you are interested in helping out.

Quest for Belief - This Sunday

Love, Marriage, and the Baby Carriage. If you chanted this rhyme on the playground, you’re old enough to have witnessed an amazingly rapid evolution of societal acceptance when it comes to romantic relationships and family life – the good, the bad, and the downright baffling! But which changes rate what adjective… and who are we to decide, anyway?

All are welcome to drop in and join the discussion this Sunday, February 9th, upstairs in the Youth Room from 9:15-10:15am.

Meditation Group -This Monday

Please join us for Meditation group. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Mondays from 7 to 8 pm. No experience required just a willingness to learn and breathe. Contact meditation@uucnh.org for any questions.

Systemic Change Team - Your votes are in

SCT thanks the approximately 75 participants at our Feb. 2 service, who listened to our presentations on three issues and voted to advocate for a Constitutional Amendment to Establish an Independent Redistricting Commission. The other two issues, Criminal Justice Reform and Equal Access to Healthcare were also well received with many #1 rankings.

We invite everyone to get acquainted with the FairDistrictsPA organization and its grassroots advocacy by visiting its webpage here. Sign up for emails and sign the petition. Watch the E-news for opportunities to become advocates for the cause.

Our next regular team meeting will be on March 3 at 7:30 pm. To request the Zoom link for the meeting, please contact Co-Chair, Diana Hull

Ukelele Group - Cancelled for Monday

The Ukulele group is cancelled for this Monday February 10th. The group will meet again on February 24th. Contact ukegroup@uucnh.org with any questions.

Coffee House

You are invited to be entertained by your talented friends. The West Room stage will be an open mic for anyone interested in singing a song, telling a joke, telling an interesting story, or ranting about the news — let’s keep it non-political.

Here's an idea -- make it a date night! Go out with some friends for dinner and come by the UUCNH Coffee House for entertainment and dessert. You'll have this opportunity every second Friday of the month at 7:30pm

Meet the Church

Are you new to UUCNH? Do you want to know more about us?

Please join us for Meet the Church on Sunday, February 16th from 12:00 – 1:00. These informal sessions are held after church occasionally throughout the year. After coffee hour, we gather to meet one another, watch a video, have an open ended question and answer time, and to share a little more about this church and Unitarian Universalism. Come and join us!

Jesus Discussion Group

3rd Sunday of February, the 16th, from noon to 1:15 PM on Zoom and at church (upstairs, follow the signs). Four gospels means four views of who Jesus was. Or does it? We’ll discuss the complexities in this session.  See Tony Palermo for details. [Postponed from last month.]

Pennsylvania Interfaith Impact Network Annual Fundraising Gala

You are invited to join the Systemic Change Team and Rev. Lee Anne on Sun Feb. 16 @ 5:00-8:00 pm at the Pittsburgh Mennonite Church, 2018 S. Braddock, Pgh to support PIIN.

Purchase a ticket here for $25 per person.

Contact Diana Hull about potential carpooling.

UUA General Assembly Planning starts now!

JFCS Call to Action: Support Refugee Resettlement

Jewish Family and Community Services released a statement of their continued commitment to refugee resettlement in the Pittsburgh region. They also offered ways we can help to support their important work.

Refugee Family Update from the Compassionate Service Team

Earlier this week, a team from UUCNH helped set up an apartment for an immigrant family made up of two parents, an 11-month-old baby, a five-year-old girl, and a six-year-old boy. The generous members of our congregation collected toys, bedding, bath and cleaning supplies. Then Chuck Berry, Ellen Kuntz, Katie Chapman, and Inga Burton-Smith worked alongside a staff member from the JFCS (Jewish Family & Children's Services) and assembled bedframes, made beds, arranged bathroom supplies, and got the apartment ready for its new inhabitants.

Thank you to Lois Madden for collecting the items and storing them at her house; and Joan Vondra for her coordination and lovely “Welcome to Pittsburgh” poster. We hope to help more families in the future!

Quilts In West Room

The UUCNH Quilting group is offering the congregation a soft hug for February. Please brighten up your spirits, warm your winter, and admire the fruits of their loving labor as you enjoy the quilts on the walls in the sanctuary.
