Sunday Service

December 1st, 2024

10:30 am (EDT)

Here We Come A Wassailing

Rev. Lee Anne Washington

The Victorian variation of wassailing involves going door to door singing Christmas carols in exchange for wassail and treats. Come prepared to sing Christmas carols and to sample wassail!

Immediately following the service, we will enjoy a bit of wassail and exchange cookies. After which, we will trim the Christmas trees. The Craft Group Sale will be ongoing. There’s something for everyone!

This Sunday is a great time to bring cash for the craft sale, cookies for the cookie exchange, an ornament to trim the tree, and mittens, scarves, or socks for our mitten tree!

The Share the Plate recipient for December will be North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO). NHCO addresses the needs of people in crisis, hardship and poverty in northern Allegheny County. They provide a variety of services including food pantries, utilities and other emergency assistance, employment programs, senior services, Ask the Attorney, and tax preparation for qualifying individuals. UUCNH regularly participates in NHCO special collections such as the recent Thanksgiving on Every Table collection and current Holiday Toy Shop collection.

If you are willing and able please contact Robyn Travers at robyntravers@uucnh.org.

Systemic Change Team - Creating Change

On December 2nd, the Systemic Change Team (SCT) met virtually with Senator Lindsey Williams and Representative Arvind Venkat, who spoke about the status of state issues that are meaningful to our congregation. Among the social justice topics addressed were gerrymandering, racism, voting rights, climate change, LGBTQIA rights and immigration. Read more about the meeting here.

SCT will be meeting again in December to get consensus on three issues that will be presented to the congregation for a vote. The top issue will be the congregational social justice focus for the 2025-2026 PA legislative session.

SCT's next regular meeting will be on January 6th at 7:30pm To request the Zoom link, please contact Co-Chair Diana Hull.
