Meets Sunday, June 19th from noon to 1:15 PM on Zoom and at church [upstairs, follow the yellow signs]: Before Constantine, before the gospels and epistles, there was the disciples’ experience of Jesus after his death. We’ll discuss that experience as described in early writings and oral traditions. We’ll also examine possibilities at odds with orthodox thinking.

GROCERY CARDS & FAIR TRADE SALE
|
|
Giant Eagle/Kuhn’s Grocery Cards & Equal Exchange Fair Trade Coffee, Tea, and Chocolate – Tuesday, June 21, 2022
UUCNH benefits from you buying Giant Eagle and/or Kuhn’s Gift Cards at no extra expense to you! Both stores donate $5 to UUCNH for every $100 of gift card value sold. Mother Earth and small-scale farmers benefit when you buy Equal Exchange Fair Trade Coffee, Tea, and Chocolate. Due to the pandemic the grocery cards normally sold on Sundays at coffee hour and the coffee, tea and chocolate available at their stand in Friendship Hall are being sold monthly outside on the front entrance walk.
It's easy to simply drive up and exchange a check or cash for gift cards and/or coffee, tea, chocolate. No need to leave your car – unless it’s raining or very cold we’ll be outside by the curb. If not, beep your horn to get us to come outside! If you'd like to get an email reminder just send an email Joe Meier to get on the emailing list. Or just drive up to the next Grocery Card / Equal Exchange sale on the evening of Tuesday June 21, 2022 between 4:30 and 6:00 pm. Hope to see you there.
We have been able to see one another in person on Sundays again, but the COVID virus is still dangerous. Chris and I have enjoyed the grocery card / equal exchange sales evenings and seeing everyone. Hopefully we’ll get back to Sunday sales at some point.

"MEET THE MOMENT: REIMAGINING RADICAL FAITH COMMUNITY"
|
|
June 22 - 26 - The 2022 Ware Lecturer is Ibram X. Kendi.
Join UUs from around the world for General Assembly in Portland, Oregon. This year’s annual meeting of the UUA will be multiplatform (in person and online). In addition to business sessions, the General Assembly (GA) program offers workshops, lectures, and worship and witness opportunities during the five days of GA.
Dr. Kendi is author of five straight #1 New York Times bestsellers, including How to Be an Antiracist and the National Book Award-winning Stamped From The Beginning: A Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America. In 2020, Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world. His relentless and passionate research puts into question the notion of a post-racial society and opens readers' and audiences' eyes to the reality of racism in America today. Dr. Kendi's events are sharp, informative, and hopeful, serving as a strong platform for any institution's discussions on racial discrimination.
Dr. Kendi will deliver the lecture at 4 pm Pacific on Saturday, June 25. In-person registration is required to
attend the event in Portland, Oregon. In-person or full virtual registration is required to live-stream the event on June 25, or access the video on-demand when it is posted.

Save the Date: Sunday, June 26, noon – 1:15 pm by Zoom and in-person in the East Room. Movies! For over a century, this art form has been an important part of American culture. The local cinema once provided, along with churches, a primary meeting place for friends and neighbors, and now has increasingly become an at-home experience – something gained, something lost? Does a spectacular immersive movie experience—huge screen, all around sound, cushy seats—indicate anything about the cultural need for ever more, bigger, more expensive extravagant productions? Are there any movies that have especially moved you or changed your life? Over time, have movies reflected American culture or driven it? Do you think about movies as an art form or just entertainment? What would you call a “great movie”? Do you care what the critics say?
To get onto the email list for more information and login information, contact Dick Myers. Note: the login information for these monthly Zoom meetings is the same each month.

If you’d like to help make “Friday Fun Nights” a regular occurrence on our UUCNH church calendar, we’d love to have you join the gang! Team Fun is not a standing committee with monthly meetings, but an ad hoc group that gets together as needed, in person or virtually, to plan fun events for our whole church family. COFFEE HOUR HAS RETURNED - SIGN UP TO HOST!
|
|
Yippee! Coffee Hour is back at UUCNH as a regular thing. For now, it will be coffee and tea only, no food at this point in time. Also, while we are requiring masks inside, Coffee Hour will only occur outside weather permitting.
There will be one hosting household per week. On your hosting Sunday, you'll need to bring a quart of half and half and a container of apple juice. Come before 10:00 to set up an urn of regular and an urn of hot water. A Keurig and reusable pods will be available for decaf. Empty clean dishes from the dishwasher. Follow the instructions for setting things out with the coffee. Stay to the end, mulch the dogwood outside the office window with the coffee grounds, rinse out the urns, load and run the dishwasher. Bask in the glow of building loving religious community!
No host, no Coffee Hour!

A Joy from Tassi Bisers: On Thursday, June 2nd in Portland, Oregon, my daughter-in-law Jackie White, after 24 hours of induced labor and a C-section, gave birth to a 7lb, 10 oz person. As my son Dave says, "Girl parts." The baby has been named Ripley Josephine Bisers! Josephine was my mother's name. Everyone seems to be doing well.
From Lindsay Scott a Joy: My daughter Alexis and her husband Jay are expecting a baby boy in October!
A Sorrow: On June 4th, many of us shared in the Sorrow of wishing beloved UUCNH member, Becky Ridgeway, a fond farewell at her Memorial Service. There was joy also in sharing the memories of her time with us—though she is dearly missed.
Chris Hill mentioned Becky Ridgeway’s NPR profile. You can still listen to it here, or by searching NPR.org for “heart transplant ridgeway”.
A Joy from Irene Dinning: Thank you for the donation of about 100 pounds of compost to the Hunger Garden from Zero Waste Wrangler, a household composting company. It will be well used by me.
A Sorrow from Beth Zak: It was one year ago today that my niece, Alecia died by suicide. I am tremendously grateful for this community- You have helped me to navigate this loss in so many ways.

Note: There are times when you may not be able to share during a service but want the Congregation to know what is on your heart. In that instance, just contact a member of the Lay Pastoral Care Team (LPCT) in person, or submit your Joys & Sorrows electronically by CLICKING HERE. Once submitted, the form is sent to all LPCT members. (Chris Hill, Ruth Horwitz, Susan Powers, Lynn Richards, Lynne Herchenroether & Rev. Jane Thickstun) Please be sure to submit your item by NOON on Saturday at the latest, so we get it in time for Service. Also, the LPCT now has an email address ([email protected]) which forwards to all members of the team. We welcome your sharing and would be honored to carry forth your message.
