Sunday Service - October 27, 2024
10:30 am (EDT)
| |
|
Michael Servetus
Chuck Berry
Unitarians and Universalists have interesting histories going all the way back to the first few centuries after Jesus' death.
We will look at our UU legacy and focus on one Unitarian who sacrificed all for his religious beliefs.

Our Share the Plate recipient for October will be the Jewish Family and Community Services of Pittsburgh (JFCS). JFCS provides social services to all ages and walks of life, with a particular focus on refugee and immigrant populations. UUCNH has joined their "Welcome Home Set-Up Team" initiative, which helps new refugee families feel welcome in our community by obtaining donations of household items and helping them set up their new home. The 8-9th grade OWL class is a very robust curriculum with many classes. In an effort to get them all in, we have made the classes 5-8:30 on two Sundays a month. This is during dinner time. Our hope is that individuals in the church will adopt a class to supply food and/or drink for the facilitators and youth. You do not have to have a child in the class to adopt one. If you are interested contact Ron Smart or Robyn Travers (class facilitators) to offer your assistance. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Clean Out Party, Nov 17 following the Sunday Service
|
Buildings and Grounds are requesting your assistance in removing accumulated, unused stuff from the shed, silos and various spaces that over time have become quite cluttered. If there are things that you may have left at the church you will need to retrieve them so they are not discarded. We need help to restore these areas so they can be used more efficiently. Lunch will be provided. Work clothes and gloves are suggested.

Bellwood KidStuff Sale Donations (From Melissa Nelson)
|
[Putting on my UUCNH hat], I’m in charge of disbursing any donations that are left at the end of the KidStuff Sale. If anyone knows of an organization that would pick up donations on Saturday, October 26, please reach out to me at mreash@mac.com or 412-298-2031, and I will contact them. We have several lined up, but the more, the merrier!
Also, if anyone would like to come and pack up donations, we would welcome any help starting around noon on Saturday, October 26th. I’m also happy to give volunteer hours for any youth that help. Even just an hour of help would mean a lot! Thanks!

Connections Announcement - Classes in Unitarian Universalism
|
UUCNH, through the Connections Team, will be offering a series of classes exploring various aspects of Unitarian Universalism. This is an opportunity to learn more about Unitarian Universalism and the class is one of two required to become a member of UUCNH.
The Introduction to UU is one based on a class developed by the UUA - the Unitarian Universalist Association. This class is presented in 3 parts, each one consisting of 2 sections from the UUA's "Tapestry of Faith Program for Adults". The final date for this class will be November 3rd. We will meet after coffee hour each of the 3 Sunday's and lunch will be provided. You can expect to be involved for 2 - 2 1/2 hours each day.
If you are interested in becoming a member of UUCNH or just want to know more about the UU faith, please send an email to connections@uucnh.org. Also, if you need child care let us know that as well so that we can make those arrangements.

UUCNH Children's Library - Adopt A Book Program
|
In January, librarians Julie Kant and Kathy Herrin began work on the library Children's Collection. We have now weeded about half the picture book collection and entered the titles into an online database, LibraryThing. The Craft Group has given us a generous one-time grant to purchase about 20 new picture books for the library and a half dozen “board” books for the church nursery. We are now inviting members of the congregation to "adopt" these books for a donation of $20 per picture book and $10 per board book. A book plate indicating the donor is included; you may also adopt the book "in honor of" or "in memory of" a loved one. We plan to use the new money to complete the updating of the picture book collection.
The adoption day is this Sunday, October 27th, before and after church. We want the Children's library collection to be used by the whole community and we are very grateful for your support in adding new materials. Please contact us at library@uucnh.org for more information.

Election Day Reminder - Church Closed!
