Nourishing Our Spirits

Sunday Service

March 23rd, 2025

Trusting the Ripples: Healing Ourselves, Healing the World

Rev. Lee Anne Washington

In a world often fractured by injustice and fear, how do we hold on to trust—trust in each other, in the power of compassion, and in the possibility of change? Drawing on the Jewish concept of Tikkun Olam and Buddhist principles of personal transformation, this message explores how inner healing and ethical action are deeply intertwined. With trust as our guiding force, we’ll consider how small acts of justice and compassion can ripple outward, transforming both society and ourselves. Together, we’ll reflect on the courage it takes to trust in the unseen fruits of kindness—and the hope that sustains us when the world feels beyond repair.

During the duration of our OWL program, all children should report directly to their respective classrooms.

What is your favorite Poem?

Thank you to everyone who submitted a poem. We look forward to your sharing them next Sunday.

Joys and Sorrows

A Joy from Erin Terrizzi: She announced last November that her Mom, Mary Moll, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The chemo treatments have worked very effectively. The cancer did not spread to any of her other organs. This past Monday, her mom had surgery to remove the last of the cancer. She will have one more less extensive chemo treatment in about a month, just to make sure the doctors got all the cancer out, and then her mom will be cancer free! Please keep her and her team of doctors and nurses in your thoughts tomorrow. We will update the church next week.

A Joy from Melissa Nelson: Thank you to all for your patience as Bellwood had another successful KidStuff Sale this past week. Special thanks to Julie Kant, Chris Hill, Chuck Berry, Ethan Zadnik, and Will Nelson for helping with breakdown! Shout out to Don Nelson for providing music during breakdown, which was much appreciated by the sale coordinators (and me!) who spent every waking moment in the building lately! Unsold donations went to several local organizations, including local shelters: Thrive (clothing and toys for immigrant families), Progress Through Pages (books for local schools in need), DTCare (educational toys that are shipped to countries, such as Ukraine, and the Kindness Cupboard (all things for people in need). This is truly an event where everyone wins!

A Sorrow From Alan Lantzy: His 62 year old cousin has been hospitalized since December at John Hopkins with cancer. He has been in and out of ICU.

Note: When you want to share a joy or sorrow submit it electronically by clicking here by Saturday. Alternatively, you may can fill out a card as you enter the sanctuary on Sunday.
