Blessed are the Peacemakers: Our First Principle and Peace-Making

Rev. Lee Anne Washington

In a world that often confuses strength with domination, our First Principle calls us toward a deeper, sturdier path: peace rooted in the inherent worth and dignity of every person. This Sunday we consider what it means to be a peacemaker—not a peacekeeper, not a peace-faker—but one who builds peace through courageous compromise. With wisdom from Gandhi, the Dalai Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and the brave architects of the Northern Ireland peace process, we explore how lasting peace grows not from victory, but from the recognition of each person’s full humanity. Music from our guest choir will weave through the service as we ask: what does peacemaking look like in our time?

Joys and Sorrows

From Lynne Herchenroether, a Joy:

My granddaughter, sled hockey player for team USA, was introduced to the audience at a Penguin hockey game this past week. Kaden and a teammate were invited to sit in their VIP box and were shown on the Jumbotron along with a clip of Kaden scoring a goal. It was noted that team USA scored 34 points to 1 at the World Championships in Slovakia.”

Note: When you want to share a joy or sorrow submit it electronically by clicking here by Saturday. Alternatively, you can fill out a card as you enter the sanctuary on Sunday.

ACTION ALERT: Clean Air Needs You!

Allegheny County Council is voting on permit fee increases for polluting industries, Tuesday, Nov 18 @ 5PM at the County Courthouse, 4th Floor – Gold Room.

We need to show the County Council that the people of Allegheny County care deeply about clean air and environmental justice. A packed room sends a powerful message, we care. We’re watching. We demand better. Let’s fill the Gold Room and make our voices heard. The air we breathe depends on it.
