Sunday Service

April 6th, 2025

Vitamin G

Rev. Lee Anne Washington

A well-known medical doctor and social media influencer includes “Vitamin G” in his recommendations for a healthy diet. Join us in expressing our gratitude for the generosity of all those who have answered the call to pledge their financial support to our beloved community and discover how to benefit from Vitamin G.

For the duration of our OWL program, all children should report directly to their respective classrooms.

Children's Religious Education Schedule

No time for all ages while OWL is in session. All children go directly to their classrooms.

Feb 2nd - April 13th -Elementary Owl classes will be held concurrently with RE classes. Any children not registered for OWL are welcome to go to RE classes.

April 6th, 13th, 28th RE Classes (Theme is joy). This month we will be looking at where joy can be found, and we will begin by exploring how joy is found in “foolishness.” Think fun, silliness, jokes, and the good-hearted frivolity that makes us happy to be alive.

April 20th - Easter egg hunt.

Dance Jam/ Moving Meditation Tonight!

Join us on the Friday April 4th (First Friday of each month) at 7pm as we create a safe non-judgmental space to dance, move, sit, laydown listen to/feel music, and be in our bodies. Come as you are and move as you please.

PSI (Philosophical, Spiritual Insights) Group

First Sunday of April, the 6th, from noon – 1:15 PM on Zoom and at church (upstairs, follow the signs). Is the Self an epiphenomenon, a collection of memories or is there more? And what can near death experiences tell us? To be covered in this session.

Please see Tony Palermo for details.

Quest for Belief

There’s always one…

How do you deal with people that you really, well… just don’t like? How do you decide when to try harder, or when to walk away? What guidance do our first three Principles give, and how likely − in the heat of the moment − are we to take it?

Let’s talk! All are welcome to join the discussion on Sunday, April 13th from 9:15-10:15am upstairs in the Youth Room.

Joys and Sorrows

A Joy from Kathi Finch and Tom Yeh: Tom got a clear CT scan result on Friday, While he is not out of the woods yet with his lymphoma, it gives them lots of encouragement that the chemo he went through this summer and fall did its job. They are grateful for all of the support you've given them during these 9 months. It's meant a lot to know that you've been pulling for them.

A Joy from Michael Mitchell: Sunday was Cindy Mitchell's birthday! There was a Karaoke birthday party for Cindy that evening at Shenanigans on Babcock. Happy Birthday, Cindy!!!

Note: When you want to share a joy or sorrow submit it electronically by clicking here by Saturday. Alternatively, you may can fill out a card as you enter the sanctuary on Sunday.

Open Mic Night - April 11th.

You are invited to be entertained by your talented friends. The West Room stage will be an open mic for anyone interested in singing a song, telling a joke, telling an interesting story, or ranting about the news — let’s keep it non-political.

Here's an idea -- make it a date night! Go out with some friends for dinner and come by the UUCNH Open Mic Night (formerly known as Coffeehouse) for entertainment. You'll have this opportunity every second Friday of the month at 7:30pm

Cherishing the Connectedness of All Things

Transforming Ourselves

Imagine the Possibilities- Stewardship Pledge Drive

Last year, we received $372,651.00 in pledges. This year we are reaching for the stars and hoping to raise at least $390,000.00. We are making great progress. So far, eighty-two members and friends have generously pledged $310,698.00. And, we are ever so grateful!

On Sunday, our pledge drive ends and we begin creating a final budget based on how much has been pledged. So, it is imperative that if you intend to pledge, you do so on or before (preferably before) then.

With your help we can reach our goal!

Click here to submit your pledge.

Call for Board and Leadership Development Team Nominations

Are you interested in joining the UUCNH Board of Trustees or the Leadership Development Team?

Per the UUCNH bylaws, this announcement is our formal posting of a call for nominations to begin a 3-year term starting in July, 2025. For the Board, specify if the nomination is to serve on the Leadership Track. Nominees must be members and consent to the nomination.

Contact LDT (ldt@uucnh.org) no later than 4/11/2025 if you are interested in submitting a nomination or if you have questions.

Capital Campaign Status Summary

The monthly CC Status Summary

Spreadsheet shows the prioritized project list, our initial estimated cost of each project, actual contractor quotes we have received for the work and much more.

This is the first CC’22 Status Summary since October 2024. We have had difficulty with the Air Conditioning (AC) project. We lost the mechanical engineer we were originally working with, but found a new one who has been working with us since October 2024. The AC project is the

largest cost project in the CC. As mentioned at the Mid-year congregational meeting in January, we have been wary of moving forward with too many other projects until we have a handle on the AC cost, hence there has been reduced spending of CC funds recently.

Please click this link to review the latest CC Status Summary Spreadsheet update. We are still working on several projects other than the AC. Projects with signed contracts include, the Memorial Walls in the Celebration Garden, Stormwater Improvements, additional Solar Panels and the Mechanical Engineer for design of the AC system.

See this link for a more detailed discussion of our progress to date.

We are trying to self-perform as much of the work as possible. Anyone with a desire to lend a hand is welcome to contact Joe Meier (see below). People with electrical wiring or carpentry skills would be especially welcome. Any questions or offers of help can be sent to Joe Meier at capitalcampaign@uucnh.org.

Our Caring Community Still Needs You

Are you able to:

  • provide companionship to a person who is lonely?
  • lend some tools to a fellow congregant?
  • offer rides to the grocery store or to the doctors office?
  • provide a meal to a family that has had a recent birth or loss?
  • hold a baby or play with a toddler so that the parents can get some work done or take a nap?
  • do small household jobs like hanging pictures, weeding a small garden, cutting a lawn?

If you said yes to any of these questions, the Caring Community team would love to hear from you.  Please email caringcommunity@uucnh.org and tell us how you can help. Your name will be added to a list of people that we will reach out to when a need arises.

UU General Assembly

UUCNH needs delegates for GA. Please see here for details on being a delegate.

The theme this year is "Meet the Moment." This year's programming goes beyond a theme — it’s a platform for UU's to engage in big-picture conversations about the vital work happening across our faith.

These sessions bring together UUA staff, thought partners, and congregational leaders to explore practical solutions that promote healthy congregations, empower leadership, and inspire newcomers to Unitarian Universalism.

From religious education to budgeting, family ministry, and building management, Meet-The-Moment programming offers a think tank experience designed to address the real needs of congregations. It’s a chance to learn, collaborate, and share best practices, ensuring our communities are equipped to face today’s challenges with innovation, resilience, and faith.

Jewish Family Community Services volunteering

As the nation's refugee resettlement program is on hold indefinitely, we will not be asked to serve as a home set-up team in coordination with Jewish Family Community Services (JFCS). In the meantime, the JFCS team has provided information about other ways that we can be involved with refugee families who are already here in Pittsburgh here. Please reach out directly to the JFCS contact listed if you are interested in being involved.

Food Pantry Donations

UUCNH has a food pantry for donations to North Hills Community Outreach located in friendship hall. Please consider donating non-perishable food items, hygiene and cleaning supplies.

Did you forget your items? No problem... you can buy a grocery card and donate it.

Buy a Grocery Card

UUCNH benefits when you buy Giant Eagle and/or Kuhn’s Gift Cards at no extra expense to you! Both stores donate $5 to UUCNH for every $100 of gift card value sold. Grocery cards are sold by the ushers in Friendship Hall after the Sunday service.

Support Fair Trade

Fair Trade Equal Exchange Coffee, Tea, and Chocolates are always available to purchase from their usual display in Friendship Hall.
