Sunday Service
October 12th 2025
Deep Dive Sunday:
Our Fourth Principle and Immigration
Rev. Lee Anne Washington
Donald Trump speaks of undocumented immigrants as rapists, murderers, gang members, and drug lords. Immigration Rights activists speak of an inhumane immigration crisis involving kidnappings, disappearances, and the separation of families. ICE agents complain of a drastic increase in assaults, doxing, and threats to themselves and their families. What are we to do?
Join us in our first Deep Dive Sunday. We will pick up on the August 24th and 31st Sunday services, which focused on our fourth principle: affirming and promoting a free and responsible search for truth. Let’s get some perspective, put things in context, and determine what a compassionate response might look like.

Please bring your smart phones, laptops, or tablets. You will be divided into groups of six to search out the answers to some prompting questions and then engage in discussion. Those attending in person will be sorted by table throughout the building. Those attending remotely will be sorted into Zoom rooms. Expect this service to last 90 minutes.

Instead of time for all ages, children should proceed directly upstairs to Children's Chapel upon arrival.

Quest For Belief this Sunday!
The Religious Buffet – What’s on Your Plate?
We all come from unique backgrounds, with differing religious affiliations and experiences. Like the proverbial buffet, being UU allows us the freedom of choice in our search for truth and meaning.
So what aspects of our own past traditions do we want to keep, and which are we eager to jettison? Let’s discuss! All are welcome to join Quest for Belief on Sunday October 12th, from 9:15-10:15am, upstairs in the Youth Room.

Meditation Group This Monday
Please join us for Meditation group. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Mondays from 7 to 8 pm. No experience required just a willingness to learn and breathe. Contact meditation@uucnh.org for any questions.

Jesus Discussion Group
Join us on the 3rd Sunday of October, the 19th, from noon to 1:15 PM on Zoom and at church (upstairs, left, then end of the hall). Palestine was a sad place for peasants to exist in the first century. Roman oppression spawned many efforts to return to Jewish independence. Some of the leaders were even called messiahs. The Story begins. See Tony Palermo for details.

Joys and Sorrows
From Edith Ruiz, a joy: I am so excited to let you all know that my husband Ryan and I are expecting a baby, with the due date in April of 2026. I wanted to share this moment of great joy with you, my church family, who have been such an important part of my life here in Pittsburgh.
From Erin Terrizzi, a joy: Tomorrow I will start a new job at a foster care agency. This is a job that I have become passionate about in the last year and a half of caring for a foster child of our own. It feels good to be on the other side of the desk where I'll get to help children and families. The most joyous thing was that my mom got to hear about my job offer before she passed.
From Bruce Travers, a joy: Today is my wife Robyn's birthday. She is... um, over 21. If you see her today, wish her a happy birthday.
From Tatyana Nagorski, both a joy and a sorrow:
Her joy: I got engaged.
Her sorrow: My dad is moving to hospice care only two weeks after my mom passed.
Note: When you want to share a joy or sorrow submit it electronically by clicking here by Saturday. Alternatively, you can fill out a card as you enter the sanctuary on Sunday.

Open Mic Night Tonight!
You are invited to be entertained by your talented friends. The West Room stage will be an open mic for anyone interested in singing a song, telling a joke, telling an interesting story, or ranting about the news — let’s keep it non-political.
Here's an idea -- make it a date night! Go out with some friends for dinner and come by the UUCNH Open Mic Night (formerly known as Coffeehouse) for entertainment. You'll have this opportunity every second Friday of the month at 7:30pm

What's the difference between a dog and a cat?
A dog thinks, "My human feeds me, brushes me, and takes care of me. They must be God!"
A cat thinks, "My human feeds me, brushes me, and takes care of me. I must be God!".
