Invoking the Blossoms and the Flame: Imagining a Solution to Homelessness

Rev. Lee Anne Washington

May 1st was Beltane, also known as May Day. It’s a time to joyfully celebrate returning daylight, blooming flowers, and the transforming power of fire. In this context, Rev. Lee Anne will share what she learned from watching Beyond the Bridge: a Solution to Homelessness and provide an update on Pittsburgh’s commitment to providing 500 affordable housing units in Allegheny County in 500 days.

(Theme is Imagination) Life can sometimes seem locked in place and set in stone. Imagination helps us see that this isn't true. We say that Spring brings new life and new possibilities. This month let us realize that imagination does the same!

Celebrating Life

Silent Auction Item

Before her move to Ohio, Ginny Love, long time UUCNH member, generously donated a beautiful, multi-color Dresden Plate quilt to the Craft Group to raise money for the church. It has been in Ginny's family for years, but she doesn't believe it was made by a family member. It has probably been washed only once.

The double/queen sized (84" x 94") quilt is in very good condition, probably created about 1940. It is hand appliquéd and hand quilted in 1 1/4” cross hatch grid with some curvilinear motifs between the “plates” and along the scalloped edges.

We had it appraised by Jan Rodgers, an independent textile historian and quilt appraiser. Based on her assessment we are starting with a minimum bid of $150.

The Quilt and the bidding sheet are hanging in the West Room. Bidding will close at 12:30 on May 4th.

Payment by check or cash, please.

Bocce Cancelled this Saturday!

Bocce is cancelled this Saturday May 3rd, the next meeting will be June 7th.

Rev. Lee Anne's Installation

Please let us know you are coming!

An installation of a minister is a sacred ritual. It is a statement of commitment from both the minister and the congregation. This is an occasion to be celebrated.

On June 1st, we will be installing Rev. Lee Anne as our settled minister. There will be a service followed by a tea party with finger sandwiches and scones. Our annual meeting will follow the party.

Please assist the planning team by clicking here to let us know that you will be coming.

Area Meeting on Achieving Fair Districts for PA.

Join us on May 10th at 2:00pm to learn about the harms of gerrymandering and what we can do about it. RSVP using the instructions on the flyer here.

The mapping of voting districts to give unfair advantage to whatever political party happens to be the majority (gerrymandering), has led to hobbling litigation and political gridlock at PENNSYLVANIA’s legislative level. Current legislation under consideration would amend the Pennsylvania Constitution to create an independent citizen redistricting commission.
