Nourishing Our Spirits

Sunday Service

August 24th, 2025

Our Fourth Principle (focus on free & responsible search)

Rev. Lee Anne Washington

Through our fourth principle, we affirm and promote the free and responsible search for truth and meaning. In today’s world, highly polarized partisan purveyors of the news make it difficult to discern fact from fiction, misinformation from disinformation, and reasoned discourse from emotional propaganda. In the first of three services focused on our fourth principle, we will explore its meaning and its history as a bedrock commitment of Unitarian Universalists.

Children's RE Summer Schedule

In Gather the Spirit we will:

  • Cultivate gratitude for our access to clean water
  • Talk about scarcity of clean water and its inequitable distribution
  • Nurture our care for the Earth as is taught in our 7th principle
  • Listen to stories of other cultures
  • Experiment with water
  • Build a river scene, add to it each week, and share it during water communion

Joys and Sorrows

A Sorrow from Carol Watkins:

When we got back from vacation we discovered that a waterline break has caused our house to flood. We have insurance but must have floors and some walls replaced.

A Joy from Joyce and Al Kepner:

Al and I celebrated our 50th anniversary this week-end. We are truly blessed.

A Joy from a child in the sanctuary: She has a pink firefly flashlight and the light is the light up part of the the firefly.

Note: When you want to share a joy or sorrow submit it electronically by clicking here by Saturday. Alternatively, you can fill out a card as you enter the sanctuary on Sunday.

Transforming Our World

We can help another Refugee family!

The UUCNH Compassionate Service Team in collaboration with JFCS (Jewish Family Community Services) is excited to share that we are collecting items for a recently arrived refugee family who will be welcoming a baby next month!

Donated items will be collected at UUCNH through August 31. Please take a look at the SignUp Genius to see what the family has requested.

We plan to use funds that were graciously donated to this project to order larger items (such as crib, mattress, and stroller) and have them delivered directly to the family. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
