More Than Words On a Page

Rev. John Ballance

We will examine the meanings of key words in UU theology, particularly with respect to the UUCNH mission statement.

AFFIRMING AND PROMOTING OUR FIFTH PRINCIPLE

UUCNH is Closed on Tuesday May 20th as it is a polling place.

LET'S FEED THE POLL WORKERS!!!

Jesus Discussion Group

3rd Sunday of May, the 18th, from noon to 1:15 PM on Zoom and at church (upstairs, follow the signs). Christian proto-orthoxy became orthodoxy, eliminating the thoughts of countless early Jesus people, and yet there are still a myriad of versions of the Jesus story. Let’s discuss yours…and the views of Stephen Mitchell in The Gospel According to Jesus.

(Theme is Imagination) Life can sometimes seem locked in place and set in stone. Imagination helps us see that this isn't true. We say that Spring brings new life and new possibilities. This month let us realize that imagination does the same!

Vesak, A Buddhist Holiday

On Sunday, May 18th, 2025, from 3-5 p.m., our friends at Allegheny UU in Pittsburgh's north side will be hosting Buddhist groups from various sects and traditions.

Each group will present some wisdom, meditation, singing, or chanting. At the end we will march to the river and pour blessed water into the Allegheny river as a symbol of unity for world peace. Jesse Lehmier plans to attend, and may be participating in the blessing chant.

More details on the event can be found here:  https://www.pittsburghbuddhist.org/2025-vesak.html

It is a free event and open to the public.

Joys and Sorrows

A Joy and Sorrow from Becca Hovermale & Chris Bailey: Our son, Sam, will be shipping out in 8 days, as he secured a cyber security position with the United States Army. We are extremely proud of him and the young man he has become. He will be in our hearts as he takes on this next chapter of life.

A concern from Midge Miles: My husband David is in the hospital again with another blood infection while they identify the bacteria and determine the best antibiotic treatment.

Note: When you want to share a joy or sorrow submit it electronically by clicking here by Saturday. Alternatively, you may can fill out a card as you enter the sanctuary on Sunday.

Celebrating Life

Thank you to Bellwood for the Art Show

The Bellwood teachers and staff worked so hard to transform our church into an amazing kids art show. It was an absolute joy to see all the work that was done through the year by the Bellwood kids. Especially poignant was the display in memorial of UUCNH member Alex Saksen.

Help Wanted for Saturday May 31st

The installation team is looking for assistance with set up for Rev Lee Anne's Installation. We will be removing the chairs from the west room and setting up tables. Meet at church at 1pm. If you are able to assist, please contact Office@UUCNH.org it would be greatly appreciated.

Rev. Lee Anne's Installation

Please let us know you are coming!

An installation of a minister is a sacred ritual. It is a statement of commitment from both the minister and the congregation. This is an occasion to be celebrated.

On June 1st, we will be installing Rev. Lee Anne as our settled minister. There will be a service followed by a tea party with finger sandwiches and scones. Our annual meeting will follow the party.

Please assist the planning team by clicking here to let us know that you will be coming.

Share your wisdom with our bridging youth

Rev. Lee Anne and I would like to start a new tradition here at UUCNH. Our beloved congregation has so much experience and wisdom to share. Each year that we have youth bridging into adulthood, we hope that you will share those pearls at pearlsofwisdom@uucnh.org.

This year, please send your pearls of wisdom by June 1st and I will compile them into a small booklet for Gavin Connor. In years to come we will ask for your pearls in advance so that the booklet can be presented at the bridging ceremony.

In faith,

Robyn
