80's Babies Small Group
Sunday, March 25, 12:30 PM, meet at the back of the Sanctuary

The "80s Babies" (formerly the Young Adults Small Group) is a place for those of us born in the 80's (70's and 90's babies also welcome) to come together and talk about issues important to us. We are an open group, providing a safe space to share ideas, challenge each other respectfully, and connect with one another.
The group meets on the second Tuesday of the month and the fourth Sunday of the month. The fourth Sunday meets after the second service and then heads off-site for food and conversation. Contact Sarah below for more information and calendar reminders.

Congregational Photo

Everyone is encouraged to show up on April 1 between services for our annual all-congregation photo! Please plan on staying late after the first service, or coming early for the second service. We'll start getting into place at 10:45 AM to take the photo at 11:00 AM on the patio. 
Upcoming Classes & Events
First Annual Community Dance at UUCP
Saturday, March 24, doors open at 6:00 PM and the dancing starts promptly at 6:30 PM
"Promenade" and "sashay" at our First Annual community dance!  Those are just fancy words for walking and moving to music! Learn and enjoy the finer points with your UUCP friends and family! Peg Hesley will teach and inspire us through traditional community dance patterns with the lively music of her fiddler, Jeff Thorn. Suggested optional contribution of $2 per dancer. Bring your water bottle and optionally, a plate of finger food to share for refueling midway through the evening. Toe tapping sideliners welcome. Suggested attire:  Comfortable clothes and closed-toed footwear.
March for our Lives - 2 Events

  • March for our Lives - Saturday, March 24, 10:00 AM at the Arizona State Capitol (1700 W Washington St)
Empowerment Gathering7:00pm at Encanto Community Church,  2710 N. 7th AveA collaborative service to lift up the voices of students, teachers, parents, and elected officials. All are welcome to attend! 

Rally and MarchShow up in solidarity with students who are organizing to end gun violence in schools and our communities! The Phoenix March for our Lives begins at  10:00 AM   on Saturday  at the Arizona Capitol ( 1700 W Washington St .). Carpool from UUCP at  9:00 AM.  Bring water, snacks, signs, and look for the tall "Side with Love" banner to gather together.

Board of Trustees Meeting
Tuesday, March 27, 6:00 PM in the Johnson Room
Break bread and socialize with us starting at 6:00 PM, and the meeting begins at 6:30 PM. Guests are invited to address the Board during the guest comments at the beginning and observe the remainder of the meeting. At this meeting the Board will be discussing changes in board committee structure and planning for the election of ministerial search committee members. All are welcome. This is a special Congregational meeting to elect the Ministerial Search Committee. All UUCP members in good standing are eligible to vote on the members of the Ministerial Search Committee. Check-in begins at 10:35 AM, and this is an in person vote.
Sangha Buddhist Group
Tuesday, March 27, 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary
We will start the meeting with 30 minutes of meditation followed by a dharma reading and discussion. You need not be a Buddhist to attend, just interested in your spiritual growth. If you have questions, contact Donna Featherston at 602-997-7996.
Lynne Haeseler's Sing Along

Join Lynne Haeseler as she weaves familiar songs together with inventive pianistic flair. Singing is healthy! And when we sing together, the benefits are amplified - synchronized breath, a humanity in harmony and natural feelings of goodness and well being. Fun for all!
Passover Event at Community Night

We will begin at 6:00 PM in the Sanctuary with a special reading of the Haggadah, and seder plates, led by the Lifshitz family. TAMING THE EGO:  A journey to the middle path

Join UUCP Sangha  and Arizona friends of Bhante Sujatha, in welcoming him back to Phoenix . Originally from Sri Lanka, Bhante Sujatha is the Head Monk and Abbot of the Blue Lotus Temple in Woodstock, Illinois. He is a 30-plus year Buddhist Monk and longtime practitioner of meditation, who has dedicated his life to adding more love in the world. His approach to meditation is deep and simple, bringing core Buddhist teachings to everyone in a way that is practical and easy to understand.  A joyful, radiant, funny and wildly energetic monk, time with Bhante is a warm and spirited learning experience. Join him for this two-hour workshop as he shares his own spiritual journey and teaches simple and effective ways for you to get beyond Ego to live the fullest and most meaningful life possible. Fee: $35. All proceeds go to Bhante's Annual incubator project which funds the purchase of incubators for Sri Lankan hospitals.
Pathway to Membership
Thursdays, April 12 and 19, 6:45 PM-8:30 PM
Pathway to Membership is a class that invites you to meet with other folks considering membership and hear more from ministers, leaders, and recently-joined members about what it means to be a member of our congregation. You will have the opportunity to learn about the history of Unitarian Universalism and UUCP, get to know each other in  groups, and ask questions. The class ends with an invitation to join by signing the membership book and pledging your support. There is no pressure to join. We recognize membership is a commitment, and we hope people will take their time before joining. This will be the last opportunity to join before fall 2018. 
Community Night
Thursday, March 29, 6:00 PM in the Johnson Room
Join us at 6:00 PM in the Johnson Room for food and friendship. A donation of $5 per adult, $2 per child under ten, or $10 per family covers the cost of the meal. Each dinner  features the talents of the fabulous cooks in our congregation. Community Night is not a potluck. If you'd like to contribute as a Sous Chef (sides, salad, or bread), please signup in advance.
Menu for March 29 - We are having Chicken korma and vegetarian curry as well as basmati rice, naan bread and Indian carrot salad.

Green Sanctuary
Green Sanctuary would like to help you light up your lives for less (electricity and money)! LED bulbs will be available for purchase near the library starting  Sunday, March 25. Let us know if you need a different type, and we'll do the shopping for you.  Also, remember to go to   to send your comments to the governor asking to use the $57 Million from that suit to buy electric school buses for high pollution school districts.
Emrys' farewell sermon and celebration.

Emrys will preach his final sermon, "My Top 10: What I'll Cherish from UUCP," at 10:30 AM in the Sanctuary. This service will be followed by a farewell celebration in the Johnson Room and Emrys is also inviting everyone to join him afterwards at Piestewa Park at the Mojave Ramada at 3:00 PM for a Grill n Chill afternoon plus a sunset watching hike at 6:30 PM.

Curiosity and Vulnerability: A path toward better listening

The Critical Response Process is a step-by-step process to give and receive feedback, embrace vulnerability and dismantle  defensiveness. The process teaches you to lean on the virtues of curiosity and open inquiry to facilitate difficult conversations and can be applied to any "work-in-progress" -  
whether it's an artistic goal, a relationship, or a personal area of growth. The 3-part course will teach us to transform discomfort into inquiry. $10 total fee for class.
