A Confederate Flag Flew In The Capitol

Led By:
Rev. Christine Dance
How do we respond to the events of this week as Unitarian Universalists? How do we find hope in the midst of all this turmoil? This Sunday's service has been changed to adapt to the dramatic events of this week. It will be part pastoral and part prophetic--just like our times.

 Sunday’s Service via Zoom.

Adventure Tales
A Radically Inclusive Evening of Storytelling
We have one more storytelling workshop this Saturday, January 9 at 11:00 AM. This is your last opportunity to work with others on story development and presentation. We will be recording the workshop. It is also possible to arrange a private time to record your story to Zoom. Stories must be submitted by January 11 end of business day. Email to arrange a time.
Adventure Tales – A Radically Inclusive Evening on Zoom January 30 at 7:00 PM is an evening you do not want to miss. Listening to stories told by our community members is a wonderful way to come together and learn more about each other and to make some money for UUCP while doing it. If you normally go to an auction or donate events or items to the auction, we are asking you to dig in and donate what you would typically spend at the auction. Dig deep!! For those of you who have a tighter budget, see how a $20.00 donation fits into your life. And for those on a very tight budget, maybe a $1.00 donation will fit your budget. Click DONATE to see the ways you can contribute and watch for the Zoom link that will be sent out prior to the event.

Eat Plants for the Planet by Anne Lackey
We are still collecting recipes for our eventual cookbook. Please send your recipes to

Where do I get protein? This is usually one of the first questions people ask when considering eating less animal protein.  It turns out most Americans get TOO MUCH protein which can contribute to heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. AND it turns out plants have plenty of protein. Even the old idea that plants had incomplete protein and you needed to worry about combining food with different amino acids has been debunked. If you eat a variety of plant foods you will get everything you

Try making a Beefless Stew using your favorite recipe and using chunks of portabella mushrooms in place of beef, or one of the plant-based "meats." Here is a good recipe:
In a large pot combine
1 ½ large onions chopped into 1-inch pieces
3-4 carrots cut up and
2-3 stalks of celery cut up and a little water.

Cook 7-8 minutes, stirring frequently, adding a little more water as needed. Stir in 2 portabella mushrooms cut up, and 3-6 chopped garlic cloves.

Cook for another 5 minutes.
Add 4-5 cups of water or vegetable broth
5-6 cups of cut-up potatoes
1/3 c. tomato paste
1 T. Italian seasoning
2-3 t. paprika

Add some rosemary or other herbs of your choice. Cook for about 30 minutes, check, stir, and add water if needed. Add 1 ½ c. peas and cook for another 5 minutes. Take out about 2 cups of the stew and blend, then stir back into the stew. (Adapted from Straight Up Food by Cathy Fisher).

The 8th Principle

Led By:
Rev Christine Dance
Worship Associate
Bonne de Blas
  • As we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, let us consider adding an 8th Principle to our Unitarian Universalist guiding principles that acknowledges that we are charged to fight for an anti-racist, anti-oppressive culture. What does this mean for Unitarian Universalism? What does it mean for UUCP? How do we move forward with it and do we want to?
